READ THIS: TASCHEN's New York
Taschen's New York: Hotels, Restaurants & Shops by Angelika Taschen is a tribute to our great city in three languages: English, German and French. A lovely coffee table book, it is more than just this. It is an in-depth look that goes beyond the surface of three of our most favorite categories! It is like a book of Peachy's Picks, Fashion Alert and Haute Hotels in Whom You Know speak. Peachy Deegan feels like Taschen's New York has a downtown slant on it; perhaps that is because Taschen itself is downtown?
The photography in this work of art is absolutely outstanding. It accurately depicts each detail that is important to a traveler when coming to New York, especially for the hotels. The tabs on the side differentiating the three categories are helpful, and in that sense it is a bit of an oversized Zagat. We like how contact information is available for all establishments mentioned. Whom You Know recommends Taschen's New York!
Angelika Taschen knows New York. She's been behind the velvet ropes, explored the secret, unmarked restaurants and beloved neighborhood delis, scoured Soho, Nolita and Tribeca's stylish stores, and scoped out hotels uptown and downtown, from sleek and chic to hidden charms. She provides an all-access pass to parts of New York even most locals don't know. Dictionary-style cutout tabs make it easy to flip through, and apocket-sized map of Manhattan lists all the shops, hotels, and restaurants in the book. With this guide in hand, New York is yours for the taking.
