Remember, Whom You Know readers, there is a Special Offer for you:

It had resounding popularity among the members of the Whom You Know panel!  They stated:
"Today I received a 500ml bottle of California Olive Ranch's Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  This is their all natural unfiltered brand called Arbequina.  First of all, it is always nice to taste such a well crafted olive oil product from the U.S., as this brand is straight from Oroville, CA.  The initial scent once you crack open the cap is a vibrant, freshly pressed olive oil richness.  There is also a slight fruity essence.  Arbequina is made to be a fruity and fragrant varietal.  The first taste is fresh and aromatic, with a lovely spicy touch.  There are hints of fresh cut flowers and dried fruit, not things I would normally associate with oils, but this is certainly an exception.  I used the product tonight with a stir-fried chicken dish.  It really brought out the onions, peppers, and other spices used in the dish.  The oil brought it all together nicely, but kept it simple at the same time.  With all of its character, it did not overpower the dish.  Also, I used the oil to water down a blue cheese dressing I had opened, and it lightened it up nicely, and smoothed it out a bit.  It was excellent dipped in seven-grain bread, which allowed the oil to act on its own accord.  Best part is that the oil is pressed and delivered very quickly, from olive grove to your kitchen in record time.  I am looking forward to trying Arbequina in other dishes."
"This olive oil, called Arbequina, is delicious, and it has a high fruitiness.  It is balanced.  It is pungent.   With a very pleasing taste, Arbequina reminds me of tropical fruits.  Also it has hints of apples and all of these components blend nicely.  There are hints of the tropics. Therse are tastes of artchokes. As with all California Olive Ranch, the incredible thing is the freshness.  It is so good you can drink it out of the bottle! Or of course use it on a salad.  Or as a dipping sauce.  Or cook in it. Whatever you do with it, you will love its freshness. And itrs aroma!  And its taste."

"Turns out that some of the best extra virgin olive oil out there isn’t necessarily from the Mediterranean region, but actually hails from California.  California Olive Ranch found a plot of land in the town of Oroville in California that has similar climate and soil conditions as the Mediterranean’s finest olive orchards and set about producing some award-winning olive oil.  I recently sampled their Arbequina variety, which has a very delicate, light and slightly fruity aroma and taste.  Drizzled over salad and dipped with some bread, it has a delicious and clean taste, and never overpowers the other flavors but complements them nicely.  This is a wonderful olive oil to mix in some pasta or over meat, fish and vegetables.  It’d also be great as a butter/margarine substitute when baking.  As olive oil has gained quite the reputation in recent years as being a key player in the healthy Mediterranean diet, I’d find as many excuses as I can to include it into my meals!"

"Flavored “EVOO” (extra virgin olive oils) seems to have become the latest hot thing to be infused, like vodka, soda, tea, etc. you name it and someone’s infusing it with something. I just sampled California’s own EVOO, California Olive Ranch’s “Arbequina” olive oil. I admit I was skeptical at first with a “domestic” olive oil. So I put my snobbery aside and jumped in with Julia Child-like abandon. And so it seems once again, California can do anything that its European counterparts can do, sorry Arnold – no imports needed. I used California Olive Ranch’s EVOO to make homemade pesto sauce. Since I was using my homegrown basil I wanted only the best and freshest ingredients, which California Olive Ranch was able to supply. They use an innovative system of cultivating olives – called “Super High Density”, which allows mechanical harvesting of the olive, compared to traditional manual harvesting techniques (I have a vision of peasants picking in a field). The benefit of mechanical harvesting is reducing harvest-to-crush time resulting in consistent, high quality EVOO year after year. In fact my oil claims only '90 minutes from the tree to the crush'.
According to California Olive Ranch, the “Arbequina” has a high fruitiness, balanced pungency, and a very pleasing clean taste. ItsTasting notes: ripe tropical fruits, apple, and fresh artichoke. I was pleasantly surprised by the subtly of the fruitiness and tasting notes. They didn’t standout or overwhelm my pesto or the cheese raviolis that I made for the sauce. Of course I added the oil to the pasta water and the raviolis did not stick. Of note, although the Arbequina EVOO does not overpower its companion foods with its taste, it doesn’t like to ‘play-well-with others’either. I noticed it quickly separated itself from the other ingredients I had blended, despite using a food processor. I would recommend using the Arbequina EVOO where it can stand on its own; dip with some fresh bread or toss over al dente fusilli."

"California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil; Arbequina has a fruity taste and aroma.  This fresh taste and color is sampled with delight because of the ONLY 90 minutes from the tree to the crush process!  The ONLY ingredient is 100% natural and unrefined extra virgin olive oil.  It contains no genetically modified ingredients.  This all natural, unfiltered product enhances the fresh salad experience with delight.  Just a sprinkle on my salad with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a grind of fresh pepper made this the trio of my topping of choice.  Regarding ARBEQUINA:  'This new invention of an olive tree is characterized by its similarity to the "Arbequina Standard" from which it is a clonal selection (naturally occurring mutations) from which it is distinguished by higher productivity, larger fruit size, better pulp to stone ratio, higher oil yield, and better oil quality.  The plants are ideally suited for mechanical harvesting and high density planting.  The fruit matures in northern California during the first week on October.'  Produced and bottled by California Olive Ranch Incorporated in Oroville, California makes me realize that this high quality product DELIVERS IT ALL.  As Americans we can ALL be proud to serve and use this delectable extra virgin olive oil.  ENJOY!"
