NIGHTLIGHT: Grand opening of Amnesia on West 29th Street
It is quite the rare occasion when Whom You Know writes about a nightclub, but in an effort to be openminded and see what is out there for all of you, Peachy Deegan put on her heels last night and headed to Amnesia! Erica Bennett, hair magician, did Peachy's hair yesterday so it was absolutely not a night to stay in.
Amnesia is located at 609 West 29th Street and upon arrival with her two companions, Peachy and one friend from Salisbury School commented to each other it is a bit like the old Salisbury gym, with strobe lighting of course. They might have been the only two there that prepped in Connecticut so needless to say this is a bit different from last Thursday with the cufflink soiree at Scully and Scully.
As with most club atmospheres, it took awhile to get the party started so you needed an overdose of Nespresso prior to arrival to make the most of your energy.
You know we are tough critics and only write about the best, and we don't write about what we don't have anything nice to say about....so here is what we liked!
*It was clean. One reason why we don't love love love clubs is we hate hate hate dirty. We hope everything would typically be clean on opening night of most venues, and this was.
*Peachy Deegan was invited to the VIP area where Star Vodka was served. This is in the back center of the club and is the area we would recommend frequenting, of course. When we got there, unfortunately there was only another kind of Vodka that sponsored the event so until the Star Vodka came, we drank water as we are not into compromising excellence ever. Peachy was so happy when the Star Vodka arrived! The only way it could have been better is if she was drinking it on Liberty Jet. Seriously, it does not give you a hangover. Peachy has been up since 8am today working although the night ended at 3am.
*We met lots of nice people in the VIP area.
*The entertainers were enthusiastic-girls flipping around in what seemed to be sheets of high durability, girls dancing on tables in interesting outfits, some fire throwers...an upbeat vibe!
*The music was fun and reminded us of college days at The Kells in Boston and Mod Parties by the hockey team, the baseball team, the football team (no, theirs were in Rubenstein).... Although some said the music was promotional we would rather hear songs we know than a thumping techno beat and overall the music was great.
