Haute Hotels: The Hidden Gem on East 54th Street Hotel Elysee Offers Much More than Just Monkeying Around: It is One of the Classiest, Most Comfortable, Welcoming Hotels in Manhattan. Whom You Know Highly Recommends Hotel Elysee!!!
Whom You Know introduced you to Hotel Elysee in Big Apple Business:
And we admired their history of the Literary Set, among others:
Whom You Know is pleased to announce the Hotel Elysee has graduated to Haute Hotels! It is the second Hotel in Manhattan and third in the world to earn this distinction on Whom You Know. The first two were Brown's Hotel in London:
and The Surrey in Manhattan:
Hotel Elysee is a hidden gem on East 54th Street. Most famous for its Monkey Bar, we want you to know Hotel Elysee is a fabulous hotel as well and should be at the top of your list if you don't live here and are looking for a place to stay. Located in an area nestled among office buildings, Hotel Elysee is pure class to be enjoyed equally by the business traveler and the Manhattan leisurely visitor. It is a home away from home for those looking for an oasis on their business trip, and it is like going to an inn in Connecticut for the recreational traveler that wants a place to put up their well-heeled shoes! From the fresh flowers in the Club Room to the whimsical atmosphere of the venue, every detail is attended to and guests feel pampered.
The Whom You Know Haute Hotel panel checked in without any wait and from the moment we entered our room, it was a great experience. A hand-written welcome with a box of chocolates, a bottle of wine, and a bag of gourmet popcorn from Dylan's candy bar greeted us! (They must be reading Whom You Know to see what we like!)
Here is our beautiful King-size bed!
We particularly liked the swag and jabot style curtains-quite Chez Peachy! Hotel Elysee has a wonderful charm about it and the decor is exquisite. It reminds us of how wonderfully charming the Plaza Hotel used to be before its hideous renovation. If you are someone like Peachy Deegan who is looking for a touch of class in the decor that you used to see at The Plaza, you will find it at Hotel Elysee. This mirror below, for example, is similar to many of the fabulous mirrors we saw at the Plaza liquidation sale in 2005. Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? Peachy! Another phenomenal aspect of the Hotel Elysee is the absolute cleanliness we encountered. Look at how everything shines in this photo-it really is this clean. We cannot think of another component that could be more important.
Your every need is catered to right down to the ice bucket and glasses. Suites boast a bedroom, bathroom, hallway, living room, and even a kitchen with a little refrigerator, 2 burners and a microwave. Certainly you would be able to live in a suite if you liked. Fresh plants punctuate the rooms and the lobby area. There are docking stations for your ipod in both the bedroom and the living room.
When you leave your room, you will see the hall is just as fabulously charming. Each picture looks as though it was chosen with care and distinction and is well-lit. The woodwork and embellishments in the moldings of the hall are well-taken care of and add great character to the surroundings.
As you can see, it is a lovely place to stay even for weeks at a time! Remember, many in the past have lived here such as Tennessee Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Ava Gardner and Marlon Brando. Guest today feel like royalty down to every last detail! Everything you would be looking for in a home can be found in midtown Manhattan at the Hotel Elysee.
Peachy Deegan's favorite part of the suite was the bathroom, as she just loves green marble. It was fabulously luxurious. Every detail down to the gold accents were excellent. And the water pressure was excellent! Both the tub and the shower were great. As you can tell, she did bring her toothbrush from the best dentist in Manhattan, Cosmopolitan Dental. Signature amenities make this stay just as extraordinary as the surroundings we have spoken of! Guests enjoy complimentary continental breakfast each morning which has wonderfully fresh fruit salad and bagels that are among the softest and chewiest we have seen, complimentary wireless and wired internet access, complimentary passes to the New York Sports Club and complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres each weekday evening. As soon as the Haute Hoteliers of Whom You Know checked in we headed for the Club Room, shown below. The piano in the room added nice ambiance. Everyone that worked at the hotel that we met was pleasantly gracious and made us feel welcome. Also, their manners were excellent, which makes us want to recommend this even more.
The atmosphere in the Club Room is enjoyed by all guests and we found it to be quite popular in both the morning and evening. This was a real plus that sets the Hotel Elysee apart from its outstanding charm.
Our panel commented:
Located in the heart of New York City, you will find the most welcoming accommodation at The Hotel Elysee. From the wonderful doorman, to the welcoming and knowledgeable receptionists, to the warm gracious hosts in the clubroom, you can see why this hotel is rated by guests so highly. It is also home to the hip Monkey Bar.
With only 100 guest rooms you really feel intimate during your stay. The rooms are spacious and elegant in design. There is a really warm feeling when you are in the hotel. I felt so relaxed and comfortable, really a home away from home.
The Hotel Elysee offers all its guests truly thoughtful complimentary amenities. The Club Room located on the second floor of the hotel is spacious and comfortable. I was warmly greeted by the hotel employees when I attended the regular weekday reception. From 5 to 8pm, Prosecco, wine and hors d’oeuvres are served. With an abundance of seating choices, you will feel at home alone or with a group of friends. Every morning a complimentary continental breakfast is served. The Club Room is open to guests all day until midnight, so you are able to help yourself to tea, coffee, cookies and fresh fruit. The fresh flowers added to the luxurious feel of the Club Room.
As a guest you are also welcomed to the nearby New York Sports Club, and wireless High speed Internet access is complimentary, there is such value and commitment to excellence oozing from this hotel.
The suite we stayed in was just delightful. At approximately 700 square feet, it is very spacious. We had a gorgeous living room which included a queen-size pull out sofa. There was a small dining table and even a kitchenette. The luxury continued through to the green marble bathroom.
Ideally located in midtown, it is accessible to all the areas of Manhattan, most of which sights are in close vicinity.
What an unforgettable stay, superb from arrival to departure……honestly I didn’t want to leave!

Whom You Know Highly Recommends Hotel Elysee!
Whom You Know knows you know the Hotel Elysee is famous for its Monkey Bar, and we certainly enjoyed it last night also. We just wanted you to know that it is only one aspect to a hotel with a wealth of credentials! We did notice in the Club Room this morning though that there were bananas included in the continental breakfast options...
Thank you Adele and Claire!

Also it is nice to know that Talbot's is on the same block, around the corner on Madison. We love their new boat shoes:
