Leila Taghinia–Milani Heller, an art professional for over 25 years, received her B.A. in art history and French literature at Brown University. She then moved to London, where she earned a degree at Sotheby's works of art program. She also holds a Masters in art history and museum management from George Washington University. Before opening her own gallery, Leila Heller worked at the Hirshhorn Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, was curator for The Securities Group, and was Vice President of Windsor Fine Arts for two years. She has served on many charitable committees at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Southampton Fresh Air Home, Parrish Art Museum, Southampton Hospital, Museum of the City of New York, and Henry Street Settlement.   


Leila purchased her first gallery space at 1080 Madison Avenue in 1982. At the gallery she held the first solo exhibitions for Y.Z. Kami, currently with Gagosian Gallery, Benjamin Lira, now with Marlborough Gallery, and Thomas Woodruff, now at PPOW, among others. She also curated a photography show with Andy Warhol. In 1985, Jeffrey Dietch collaborated with the gallery in the first uptown presentation of Graffiti artists in a show entitled “Calli – Graffiti”, which paired Graffiti artists with luminary artists such as Twombly, Tobey, Torres–Garcia, Michaux, and Masson.   


Leila Taghinia–Milani Heller Gallery moved to its current location at 39 East 78th Street at Madison Avenue in 2008, and is committed to creating a space where a dialogue between the East and West can be viewed on the same artistic level. Today the gallery represents some of the most talented Iranian artists working over the last three decades, including Samira Abbassy, Shiva Ahmadi, Negar Ahkami, Roya Akhavan, Shoja Azari, Reza Derakshani, Roya Farassat, Iran Issa-Khan, Pouran Jinchi, Shahram Karimi, Farideh Lashai, Pooneh Maghazehe, Nazanin Pouyandeh, and Darius Yektai.  The gallery also shows works by many of the best known and most renowned Middle Eastern artists, including Massoud Arabshahi, Mohammad Ehsai, YZ Kami, Ardeshir Mohassess, Shirin Neshat, Sohrab Sepehri, Parviz Tanavoli, and Charles Hossein Zenderoudi; while also promoting a young, emerging generation of Iranian artists, many of who are still living inside the country, including Ali Chitsaz, Alireza Dayani, Hossein Edalatkhah, Mehdi Farhadian, Daryoush Garahazad, Ramin Haerizadeh, and others. 


Other artists represented by the gallery are Richard Bruce, Jennifer Danner, Georg Gerster, Toby Heller, Joyce Korotkin, Arnaud Rivieren, Martin Saar, Elizabeth Thompson and Peter Wise.
