FASHION ALERT: Preppy Retailer J. McLaughlin Opens New Women’s and Men’s Stores in Manhattan!!! Whom You Know Highly Recommends JMcLaughlin and We Can't Wait to Feature Kevin as a Mover and Shaker, joining his neighbors from Swifty's Across the Street!
The name J. McLaughlin has come to define classic American sportswear featuring bold colors and signature prints. Peachy Deegan has been wearing JMcLaughlin ever since she moved to Manhattan, including many years before Whom You Know existed and so we are thrilled to kick off our coverage of this iconic brand of prep. This New York based recognized retail industry leader has opened two new stores on Manhattans Upper East Side. These shops join J. McLaughlin’s 44 locations nationwide providing purebred, premium quality clothing for those who enjoy season-less American sportswear.
The new women’s store is 1,950 square feet and located at 1004 Lexington Avenue and the new men’s store is 376 square feet and located at 1008 Lexington Avenue, both sitting on the same block between 72nd and 73rd streets. This is just our inaugural coverage of JMcLaughlin and you can be confident it is indicative of great things to come.
“With the women’s store we want customers to feel like they are shopping inside a Park Avenue apartment, a place for socializing while shopping. We have plans to use the space as a salon to host events with notable New Yorkers,” says Jay McLaughlin, Chief Merchandising Officer of J. McLaughlin. We think with a name like McLaughlin they must be Irish too so that's one more reason to love them.
J. McLaughlin’s resident architect Doug Larson of Larson and Paul Architects uses a blue, green and beige color scheme to decorate the space and placed bamboo furniture throughout the store to give it a signature McLaughlin touch. We will soon kick off our first review of this fabulous brand, and it incorporates another brand we have come to know and love.
Just two doors away a new men’s location has also been unveiled. “The space feels like an exclusive men’s club with the windows blacked out and a painted gold Greek key border around the doors. Inside we’ve hung corduroy curtains, placed dark burl wood cabinets and accented with reds, camels and beiges,” says Doug Larson.
“This store is a real jewel box. We want it to be a place for men who know how to be comfortable to relax and browse. The proximity to the women’s store makes it easy for neighbors to go his and hers shopping on the same block,” says Steve Siegler, President and CEO of J. McLaughlin.
Brothers Kevin and Jay McLaughlin opened their first store 32 years ago, only one block away at 74th Street and Third Avenue on New York’s Upper East Side. Since that time the name J. McLaughlin has always had a presence in the neighborhood. Kevin McLaughlin, Chief Creative Director of J. McLaughlin says of the new locations, “Opening this store is like a homecoming, we have always had a connection to this extraordinary neighborhood and our move to Lexington Avenue reunites us with our loyal customers here.”
