Rock Your Body Exclusive Interview with Berry Brown of BB Jewels Gramercy Park

L. Berry Brown is the creator and designer for BB Jewels Gramercy Park.  Her style is known for being innovative yet timeless. Her specialty is re-inventing old world charm.

“It is so enjoyable to be creative and re-invent old beautiful things, give them a modern feel, and bring them to life again,” she tells us.

Following a career in journalism, Berry decided to pursue her passion, merging her interest in design with her desire to be an entrepreneur and launched BB Jewels. Berry has an undergraduate degree from Emory University and a master’s degree in International Affairs and Public Policy from Columbia University.

Born in Greenwich Village to artist parents. Berry’s ties to Manhattan are strong. Today she draws inspiration for her work from the many neighborhoods that make up Manhattan Island including of course Gramercy Park, her own neighborhood.

Her interest in antique jewelry and crafts however began at a very young age growing up in Northern California. Her paternal grandparents collected an eclectic range of jewelry. Her mother and grandmother both have a knack for crafts; Berry became accustomed to being surrounded by homemade baskets, textiles, clothes, curtains, pillows, and more. Today, Berry’s interest in jewelry and home accessories extends beyond her family.

“My larger passion for people and their stories, my love of travel and exploration, and my overall appreciation for beautiful design and adornment inspire me everyday in my work.”

Her latest line is a one-of-a-kind pillow collection to kick-off her entry into home accessories.  These pillows are in line with her niche. She pairs found antique textiles with new organic fabrics.  She drew inspiration from this particular line from a recent trip to India. Top lifestyle editors are giving them fabulous reviews.  Berry’s signature jewelry line BB Classic is also something she is very proud of and says, “these pendants are classic but the design is incredibly unique.”
