http://www.whomyouknow.com/2010/11/nightlight-new-england-society.html The lobster at Luke's Lobster is worthy of such an event, but it is in a far more casual setting. Although you are in a comfortable clean little establishment, you feel like you should be wearing a ball gown for the quality of food that you consume. Also, note that they cater. And we cannot emphasize enough how fresh it is. On the register they tell you where the lobster that day comes from:
This shows their true commitment to quality. Usually most brands and places we cover are run by people much older than Peachy, however, in this case, they are younger which makes them even more commendable: they do an excellent job and have quite a stellar business going! And your stomach will thank you. Our panel swung by the Upper East side location, and what can we say but we truly feel sorry for anyone that is not in their delivery parameters of 72nd to 92nd streets from the park to the river, but then you'll just have to go in person, which we did. The fresh succulent lobster is absolutely to die for and the panel unanimously agrees LUKE'S LOBSTER HAS THE BEST LOBSTER ROLL IN MANHATTAN, ANY TIME OF YEAR:
The shrimp rolls and crab rolls were equally amazing, as you can see. We strongly recommend you order the Noak's Ark so you don't have to decide and you can eat all of them. As we head into winter, we do not want you to forget about how fabulous Luke's Lobster is for this season too: if you eat like it's summer you won't notice how awful out it can get in Manhattan! And if you need to warm up, Luke's Lobster has some wonderful lobster bisque served in a bread bowl that you will fall in love with:
We strongly advise you to leave room at the end for ice cream as it is just orgasmic: here is the blueberry below. Ice cream is by Gifford's and is offered in vanilla, sweet Maine blueberry, chocolate lover's chocolate and lobster tracks which is a vanilla and chocolate combination. The Maine Root soda is totally out of this world too and it's the best root beer Peachy's ever had. She thought she made pretty good root beer with her fabulous Penguin sodastream, so she hopes they make their syrup to market too. Don't take just Peachy's word, though, listen to what the whole panel had to say about Luke's Lobster:
While the trip to Maine (aka lobster feast crawl) that I've been discussing for the last few summers has failed to take shape or form, I'm delighted that my trip to Luke's Lobster is an almost-worthy substitute, at least where the lobster feast is concerned. And one of my favorite ways to devour lobster is via a lobster roll. While there is a time and place when I'm up for struggling to de-shell a lobster whole, I can't deny that a lobster roll is the easiest and probably the tastiest way to savor lobster. And in the last few years in New York City, there's cropped up several eateries that's put out what they contend is the best lobster roll. I've hence taken it upon myself to venture forth on a lobster roll quest and try out a few of these eateries and see how their lobster roll stacks up. While I've only gone thru about 3 of these places so far, I think that my quest may just end and rest with Luke's Lobster! Luke's Lobster has taken the best part of a lobster roll, that's the lobster itself, and made it front and center, unadulterated with gobs of mayo and various other fillers that I'm accustomed to, and which I thought were necessary add-in's. When the lobster is as fresh as Luke's Lobster's (fleshed from the shell, steamed, packaged within hours of capture and shipped straight to NY), there isn't a need for many other ingredients to dress up the lobster roll. The meat is sweet and delicious, seasoned to perfection. The roll is lightly toasted and smeared with a lemon mayo. Combined together, the mix makes for an absolutely delicious lobster roll that I can't get enough of (I'll definitely be back for more, as the East Village outpost of Luke's is a short walk from my apt!). The Upper East Side outpost that I dined in has adequate seating and embodies the vibe of a quaint New England lobster shack that's welcoming, for either eat-in or take-out. The staff is super-friendly and accommodating. In addition to the star of the menu, the lobster roll, there's also a crab roll and a shrimp roll, both of which are delicious and made in a similar fashion as the lobster roll, in which the meat takes front and center stage. Also, the Maine Lobster Bisque and New England Clam Chowder are great complements to the various rolls and can be ordered in a bread bowl. The soups in themselves are light-tasting and flavorful despite being cream-based, which is exactly how I prefer my bisques and chowders. They make a great side to the rolls. With the bread bowl, it's quite a filling meal. Lastly to keep everything Maine-themed, Luke's also carries various flavors of Maine Root Soda and Gifford's Ice Cream (it's an award-winning ice cream, try the Lobster Tracks and Sweet Maine Blueberry). I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention that Luke's Lobster's lobster roll is also one of the most economical ones amongst all the eateries that shill lobster rolls, which is a huge hooray for me, as I definitely plan to make many repeat trips!
If you are looking for a place that is casual, has great food, and you are feeling nostalgic for warm summer months, head to Luke's.The best lobster roll I have eaten outside of New England hands down! I had a great meal at Luke's Lobster. The place is small but it is comfortable and we had plenty of room for the spread of seafood we consumed. The menu is simple, but the food doesn't need lots of bells and whistles. I started with clam chowder. Clam chowder is usually a very heavy soup and for as creamy as this was it wasn't the heavy at all. My friends and I tried the Noah's ark, which was soup and 3 rolls (1 lobster, 1 crab and 1 shrimp) and we each had a lobster roll. DELICIOUS!!!! Seriously..the BEST! The roll was warm and was loaded with huge chunks of fresh lobster. There was only a touch of mayo and then warm butter was poured on top. I could have taken a bath in that butter. It was all washed down with ginger brew, an organic soda from Maine. I really liked that as well. It was different and it had a bit of a kick, so it went perfectly with the sweet, buttery lobster. For dessert, I ate a scoop of blueberry ice cream! I felt like I was in Maine at that point. A great meal!! I highly recommend this restaurant. It is small and worth the money (it actually is very affordable). You'll leave feeling full and happy!!
Last night we were treated to dinner at Luke's Lobster restaurant on E.81st St on the Upper East Side. The restaurant is small but very cozy. The menu is mainly Lobster as one would expect, though other seafood is available, including shrimp, crab and clam chowder. We sampled the lobster, crab and shrimp rolls, which were all delicious. The rolls were prepared with light seasoning and little mayo so they are very natural in taste and healthy. We also sampled the lobster bisque and claw chowder which were also full of flavor and lighter than others we have tried. For dessert, we tried the Maine Blueberry ice cream which was very rich and full of flavor. Virtually all of the menu items are freshly delivered from a family farm in Maine. During dinner, we were treated with great 80's music. Overall, we recommend Luke's for top-quality fresh seafood at reasonable prices.
Whom You Know Highly Recommends Luke's Lobster!!! They're in the East Village (93 E. 7th St. 212.387.8487) and the Upper East Side! (242 E. 81st St. 212.249.4241)
