Salon Peachy: Sharon Dorram & Gabriele Vigorelli of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger!

We love our Movers and Shakers, and we get quite a lot of great ideas from them.  Today’s Salon Peachy idea is brought to you by Mover and Shaker Carol Brodie.  Here she is as a Mover and Shaker:  http://www.whomyouknow.com/2009/07/movers-and-shakers-carol-brodie-legend.html
Sharon tells us that Carol is a star even when she goes there to get her hair done and we are not surprised one bit to hear she is Ms. Popular wherever she goes!  We are still waiting to review your jewelry in Rock Your Body, Carol!  We met Carol awhile ago at a Rockefeller Center event and she has graciously stayed in touch with Peachy for ages, and also for ages she has been telling Peachy that the next Salon Peachy should be at Sharon Dorram’s Sally Hershberger.  We are pleased that their outside PR team is on it and thank you Carol for your original idea and thank you Siren!

In a city like Manhattan we are fortunate to have the best of practically everything, except maybe beaches of course which are missed most in January. Fortunately you can find flamingo pink on the curtains in the cutting room at Sharon's...Sharon Dorram has a salon that is among the very best, and it’s no accident that Christie Brinkley was there the day before Peachy.   Who else goes to Sharon?  Renee Zellweger, Kate Winslet, Kate Hudson, Uma Thurman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Marie Louise Parker, Nora Ephron, Heather Locklear, Gretchen Mol, Reese Witherspoon, and Rachel Weisz all go there. That doesn't interest us as much as Carol Brodie though because we know her, but we thought you might want to know. The list goes on, but we know you are interested in knowing what happened when Peachy went there, loyal readers!  When we work with anyone, we are most interested in how they treat Peachy and how they will treat you, and less interested with others that go there.  Although the list is obviously impressive.

Peachy did learn one great trick from Sharon via Barbra Streisand: when you have the foils in your hair and your glasses off and you cant put them on, hold them up to your eyes backwards with the bows pointing out and you'll be able to see a bit.  Great trick!

Peachy’s January hair goals were to return to her natural color with subtle highlights, blonde only.  You know she hates any shade of red hair on herself.  Sharon Dorram, master colorist, mixed semi-permanent rich brown to cover up any gray (you know Peachy is in denial in regards to any of them) and mask past highlights that we are done with.  Sharon once was a student at the Winchester School of Art in England  where she studied weaving, but has since redirected her artistic talents to haircolor, which she has done for many years now.  Originally from New Jersey, Sharon says she was a “granola” kid in school but we see no signs of that now!

We love how Sharon and Gabriele together consulted with Peachy before anything was done.  That is really key and what all salons should do always right off the bat: the team working on you should know what the end goal is before they each start doing their own thing...Also you should know this salon is separate from other Sally salons and seems pretty independent to us.  We have not worked with other Sally Salons.

Sharon Dorram at Sally Hershberger is the most beautifully decorated salon you’ll see.  In the color room, which ironically is white in décor, there is a lovely antique chandelier which we loved.  We are obsessed with Chandeliers as you know from Chandelier Peachy.  It's the second year they've been at this location.

Sharon painted in the rich brown all over and was careful to note that Peachy parts her hair all over the place, so she made it super versatile.  The warm wheel then rotated around Peachy's head giving her a halo effect because you know, generally speaking, she is pretty good...!  Or that's what we print anyway....

Nancis Mieses was a lovely assistant to Sharon washing Peachy's hair and taking care of the little things, which of course are the BIG things, like timing the color...one very fun thing for Peachy was that the Sony Ericsson Android phone joined her on her first Salon Peachy experience so she was able to view all her emails!  Yippee we hope we kept none of you waiting too long...but you know later in the day she just had to get to Swifty's for dinner.

Another great thing about SDSH is the fabulous light in the color room.  It is ideal.  Facing 71st street Sharon can expertly determine the right shade.  It is beyond us when colorists don't use daylight-it is so important.

Gabriele was a total star to work with and working with him gave Peachy the opportunity to use the three things she can say in Italian and loves to say: Pleased to meet you!  My name is Peachy!  (and if we knew how to spell that in addition to saying it we would!)  and of course the current favorite: Amo Le Scarpe Italiane!   Now we need to know how to say: Gabriele is the best Italian stylist in Manhattan!    All his life, Gabriele's dad was a stylist and a tailor and Gabriele was influenced by him.  Twenty years ago he came to New York, so Italy, we mourn your loss.   People from Italy- you just have to move here to get your hair done and bring Peachy some shoes maybe?

Gabriele believes that your hair should be complementary to your beauty.  For him, cutting hair is his art form where creative energy is manifested; for others, it can be in whatever form you choose.  Because it comes from your heart, it's profound.  You should do whatever makes you feel great inside and comes from your heart he believes, and for him, that is cutting hair.  We are lucky!  He likes to honor people's internal beauty by making them beautiful outside, and believes when one is creative, they are perfectly in tune with the universe.  He had great ideas and excellent salon philosophical views; you know Peachy asks a lot of questions in the right opportunity.

In cutting Peachy's hair, Gabriele worked with Peachy's layers and shaped her long bangs which are always off to the side, and worked some magic perfectly framing her face with angles.  Snips by his scissors, hot air from the twin turbo, and great conversation gave Peachy the look.  The cutting room has some great pink curtains which totally light up the non-street side of the salon.  It is kind of like Barbie wearing pearls on the Upper East Side...

A fabulous job by this team, and here is the end result!
Sharon Dorram, Peachy Deegan and Gabriele Vigorelli
