Terrific Takeout: Finnegan's Wake
Though the novel by Joyce is a work of comic fiction, there is nothing funny about the caliber of the cuisine at Finnegan's Wake! Located on the Upper East side, Finnegan's Wake is an oasis of Irish comfort food that is so well-known and well-loved, it predates the birth of Peachy as it began in 1972. Many Irish places are cliched American Irish bars, and it is not typical to find such fantastic fare at those kinds of places.
This is not one of those.
Finnegan's Wake makes it difficult for you to decide what to order because it all seems fabulous. Peachy Deegan decided on a special of the night, stuffed trout. It was of a delicate texture and well-flavored: this shows that the three chefs there have over 80 years experience between them.
The stuffed trout was a special of the night and each day offers new specials.
The green salad was just perfect for what you'd want a green salad to be, and the freshness reminded us of the upcoming summer months when you'll be able to dine outdoors at Finnegan's Wake. When you're there say hello to Bernie-he does a great job and is one of the most cheerful bartenders we've encountered.
Finnegan's Wake is very reasonably priced and has a comfortable atmosphere.
The chocolate mousse was a total winner and the perfect end to a great meal. And you won't be kept long either-this is not Beckett's Waiting for Godot. This is so James Joyce and the food is as good as the writing. If you just said who is James Joyce you probably should not be reading Whom You Know! We love Irish people and we love great literature:
