DAYLIGHT: Little Orchestra Society celebrates the 75th anniversary of the classic “Peter and the Wolf,” with an unusual production that is a play-within-a-play, at Avery Fisher Hall and a benefit, “Peter's Birthday Celebration,” at The Russian Tea Room
After attending this fabulous daytime extravaganza by the Little Orchestra Society, Peachy Deegan is convinced that there was not a better place for any child in Manhattan to be last Saturday, and that includes children of ALL ages. Little Orchestra Society celebrated the 75th anniversary of the classic “Peter and the Wolf,” with an unusual production that is a play-within-a-play, at Avery Fisher Hall and a benefit, “Peter's Birthday Celebration,” at The Russian Tea Room. We loved watching the fish in the bear with Gillian and Noah...look closely because that bear is really an aquarium:
In attendance was The Little Orchestra Society’s Board Co-Chair Carol Schaefer; Emil de Cou, newly-named Music Director of the Pacific Northwest Ballet (who is guest conducting the May 7 performances); Paul Binder, Founder of the Big Apple Circus; Bill Ohlemeyer, partner at Boies, Schiller and Flexner; David and Illana Adelman; and Professor and Mrs. Meyer Feldberg, among others.
The Little Orchestra Society, now in its 63rd season, performed its inaugural concert at The Town Hall on October 20, 1947, and has since been devoted to performing innovative concerts of classical music for both adults and children. In its 63 years, the Orchestra has given many important premieres and launched the careers of major musical talents in its Concerts for Adults. Under the direction of Dino Anagnost since 1979, The Little Orchestra Society has offered music education and concert programs that are dedicated to entertaining and educating New York Metropolitan Area children and families. The Orchestra’s programs include the Lolli-Pops™ Concerts for children ages 3-5, the Peabody Award-winning Happy Concerts for Young People for children ages 6-12, and the Concerts for Adults series, which includes Vivaldi's Venice, Sound Discoveries ® and Sound Discoveries ® andCathedral Concerts-Great Music Under a Byzantine Dome®.
Below are Timothy McMahon, Jeanne Markovich and Judith Randal.
And we especially liked Jeanne's hat:
