READ THIS: ROOFTOP GARDENS The Terraces, Conservatories, and Balconies of New York By Denise LeFrak Calicchio and Roberta Model Amon Photography by Norman McGrath Foreword by Evelyn H. Lauder
As you know, we get very excited when we see our Movers and Shakers Move and Shake, and Mover and Shaker Evelyn Lauder wrote the forward for this...here she is as a Mover and Shaker:
And we are on a rooftop kick-look at what is on the roof of The Met now:
Rooftop Gardens is the ultimate in getaways in your Manhattan backyard, and it is the ideal book for the aesthetic daydreamer who someday plans on stepping out onto his or her terrace with panache! Or, who is doing it right now, better yet. Gorgeous ideas infiltrate this beautiful book and here is what Peachy Deegan loved best, and she loved quite a lot in this work: the green diamond ring (but we think it should be on green grass!), the fabulous color schemes, and the home run of it all was the pool on page 98-this owner should strongly consider having Peachy over for a swim! WE LOVE IT IT IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST in the book!!! The whole place goes from page 94 to 99. Do let us know when you want to sell!
Second best: p. 146-151 the best of the Time Warner Center...who knew how great it would be to live there! Not for those that don't do heights, however.
One thing we wonder about: how do these people cut their grass? Scissors? We imagine getting a John Deere up on the roof would be quite an effort.
Good to know: Designers are on page 187 with complete contact info, in case you yourself have a monster terrace in need of revamping!
We'd love to know what address goes with each garden as we want to keep our eye on when each spot eventually becomes up for grabs, but addresses are not included of course. We do have some educated guesses....

“The romance of having a city garden is a love affair hard to relinquish. The contrast between the noise of the city streets
and the calmness of the sky’s proximity, as well as seeing breathtaking views and inhaling fragrant blossoms, keeps the
affection alive
… A rooftop garden is not like any other garden in the world.” - Evelyn H. Lauder
“Rooftop Gardens offers us a chance to leap tall buildings with the turn of a page. We share with the hawks of Central
Park their bird’s-eye view of the mysterious celestial treasures being tended high up in the air.” – Dominique Browning
ROOFTOP GARDENS showcases some of the most extraordinary outdoor spaces in New York City. High above streetlevel,
above the noise and congestion exists a sumptuous array of gardens ranging in styles, created by urban
dwellers as retreats from the daily chaos of life. This is an invitation to see these private spaces made possible by
real estate insider Denise LeFrak Calicchio and Roberta Model Amon whose personal connections have provided
glimpses into the various English cottage gardens, Japanese rock gardens, and artist installations that pepper the topmost
plots of the city’s most prestigious addresses.
