Regis was very nice and we are pleased to have met him and wish him and Notre Dame the best of luck, but not too much because Boston College will need some help from God this weekend.

With six seconds to play and Boston College down 45-41 to the University of Miami, BC quarterback Doug Flutie called “55 Flood Tip,” in which all his wide receivers ran straight routes to the end zone. Flutie took the snap and scrambled right, heaving a Hail Mary pass from his own 37-yard line. Flutie’s pass fell directly into the waiting arms of Eagles receiver Gerald Phelan, who fell to the ground in the end zone for a 47-45 Boston College victory.

Flutie passed for 472 yards and four touchdowns in “The Miami Miracle” and won the Heisman trophy shortly afterward. BC would finish the season with a win over Houston in the Cotton Bowl, but wouldn’t defeat Miami again until 2007. And every time we find a phenomenal brand made in America, we feel like it is a happy miracle too.
