Terrific Takeout: Salvo's Pizza Bar
New pizza spot on the Upper East Side is a phrase that brings as much joy to our Editor-in-Chief as phrases like: Shoe sale at Bergdorf Goodman, Sunny 70 degree day for the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Fifth Avenue and Santa filling our stocking with Star Vodka. And, when not only the pizza is superb but also everything down to the Baked Clams oreganata breaded with garlic, cheese, oregano and EVOO, it is truly a place to be excited about. Owner Joe Inzerillo along with the two Salvo Inzerillo's-his brother and his cousin- have got a winner and we think it will be even better when they have their liquor license soon. Yes, they are THAT new and they just opened earlier this month. Maybe they would call it Joe's if that is what his cousin was named...but as you see there are 2 Salvo's in this ownership equation.
This clam did not clam up at all for his closeup. You can tell he's smiling and it will smile moreso in your stomach. It is fresh. It is succulent. It is uncharacteristic of the typical pizza place on the corner. It is characteristic of the quality that we encountered at our first Salvo's jaunt.
You know Peachy must have a green salad! The Antipasto Salad is substantial with lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, onions, olives (and she liked these olives), salami, ham and mozzarella cheese.
Everything was sliced up properly and it was delicious and beautifully arranged.
Joe asked if Peachy liked Pesto. Of course she does, but in particular she found out she likes THIS pesto. The genuine notes of pure pesto punctuated every bite sauteed in a garlic, fresh basil, EVOO and touch of cream. This spoke to the quality of simplicity.
Oooooh and the pizza! It was so hot you can see the steam coming off it in the picture. Peachy Deegan ordered the #6 Veggie margherita pie topped with mushrooms, spinach, peppers, onions and broccoli-and she asked them to add garlic. A hit with perfectly proportioned ingredients and a crust that was ideally crisp.
