SPOILER ALERT!
What could be more romantic than Downton Abbey on the week of Valentine's Day!!!!
As you know, Peachy Deegan lives and breathes for the start of every exciting episode and it remains our most favorite series ever. Among our favorite characters is always the Dowager Countess:
"Grief makes one so terribly tired...now that it's over let's try to get some rest," she says early on. And later we were delighted with her quip: "Lie is so unmusical a word."
The family after suffering a huge loss needs to pull it all together, and the Earl of Grantham is no longer always the one at the helm of the ship and bearing top responsibility: it is now Cousin Matthew, who sunk his own fortune into Downton now as well and is reading all the fine print that goes along with proper management. Matthew is actually proposing to do something about what can be improved upon although-horrors, does the upper class really need to work?
Tom and Matthew are developing an admirable comradery that is only going to benefit the family, and everyone has their own part to play in this enormous endeavor otherwise known as the literal estate of Downton. Helpfulness is always an active characteristic of Isobel, and now she currently employs this activity by having Ethel as her cook (though she may end up eating bread and cheese...), and with a little forbidden help from Mrs. Patmore, we'll see what she's able to do with two limbs! (Salmon mousse, oh my!)
Matthew and Mary are still going strong and this is so gratifying to see after the tremendous buildup.
And guess who has quite a promising future? Most unlikely for the overall scope of the series, it is Daisy! Her father-in-law, Mr. Mason would be pleased as punch to see his hardworking girl take over his farm...and also down in the kitchen, Ivy has started to rebel and use rouge and James has been tickling the ivories and the piano is getting its first exercise in awhile. Slow, slow, quick quick! Who's getting in trouble?!
Downton Abbey Season Three Episode Five has earned our highest recommendation!
