If you've never had Afghan food before, you don't know what you're missing!  After checking the hundreds of restaurants we've featured, we count this as our second Afghan experience ever, and Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant outdid themselves in terms of quality of cuisine.  You can't eat Italian food every day, and with so many convincing choices at Bamiyan, you can't go wrong.  We first widened our horizons with the Aushak, directly above.  Steamed scallion dumplings topped with yogurt-mint sauce were fragrant and fantastic.   The array of spices coming through was just right and was not overpowering.  If you like scallions, we believe you'll like it too.
Next we tried the Kadu.  This means turnovers filled with pumpkin and yogurt dip.  They were slightly sweet and had an outstanding texture, and didn't have too much breading-it was flaky and light and the proper thickness.  Yogurt dip was just the icing on the cake!  The pumpkin was so soft and inviting.
We continued to be impressed with the Panir Sabzee salad, which was a wonderful concoction of fresh leaves of mint, basil and watercress with scallions, radishes and feta cheese.  It was a generous proportion and look at how beautifully it is arranged!  More people should have mint participate in their salads we think after eating this...scallions, radishes, cheese and lots of spice!
Owner Sayed Shah continued to prove he's got a winner through the entree:
Lowand Chalow.  This is also shown at the very top of the article.
Tender boneless chicken breast sauteed in savory yogurt sauce seasoned with fresh dill and tarragon will entice you and envelop your senses to the fullest extent.  The white basmati rice evens out the sauce nicely, and eating this cuisine will make you feel like you're going on vacation!
Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant is Terrific Takeout!
