Stay Warm this Winter with the Pook Toque, Made by Tony Pook in Canada, Our Neighbor to the North!
As you know, if Peachy likes something you're wearing she stops you on the street and takes your picture if you seem like a cool person as well. At this intersection this summer we met Tony...
Tony Pook has previously been featured in Laudable Looks:
He told us he had a fashion brand. People in Canada know more about staying warm in the cold than most of us in the USA. We feature Ellen Christine Couture Millinery exclusively and they are the official milliner of Whom You Know, however Ellen agreed with Peachy that the Pook Toque is in a totally different realm of headwear. It's warm, it's made in Canada, and a sense of humor is absolutely required to wear it. And if you don't have a sense of humor, what kind of person are you anyway?
Above please see the standard model. This has several variances that you will find out when you have your own, right down to the Donald Trump comb-over which we believe will fare well here in New York. The Pook Toque is made well and we are thrilled to say it is made in Canada. Up with North American manufacturing! It's the first sock hat we've ever owned, we think.
This is just the first item by Tony we've got to show you this winter.
He's entirely creative, so literally do hold onto your hats.
Tony tells us:
My name is Tony. Tony Pook (nobody knows the origin of Pook but there are rumors that it dates back to the 'knick Knack Patty Whack tribe' of northern Yukon (our people invented the concept of giving a dog a bone. There is a song about it. We also invented popcorn so you're welcome for that).
I went to school for fine Art (so didn't really go to 'school' more like I got to draw and play with clay. I actually got a degree. Then I became a deep sea diver. Then I followed my calling:
When I was in 4th grade my teacher asked us to write down what we wanted to be when we grew up. I can remember seeing the other children writing down things like 'doctor, nurse, cowboy and astronaut'. I wrote something down but had forgotten what I wrote until last Christmas when my mother had found that little piece of paper in my memoirs box in the attic. She framed it and gave it to me. It simply said "a sock hat salesman". So even as a little boy I KNEW what my calling was (even before I knew what a sock hat salesman was!). So, I'm a perfect example of following your dream, never giving up and proof that your dreams CAN come true if you follow your heart.
The sock hat story in summary:
Tony Pook and Kevin McCotter are the founders of Pook Toques. With Tony's creativeness, and the enormous brain power of Kevin, the match was sure to be a winner. Having known each other since birth (Tony's father Dr. Pook delivered Kevin into this glorious world), they have gone to school together, played sports together, and traveled parts of the world together.
As can easily be guessed, yes, alcohol was involved. One night while Tony's mouth was running a little too freely from the talking juice, a friend picked up one of his traditional Canadian wool socks from the floor, threw it at Tony, and told him to "put a sock in it". Instead of in it, Tony put it on it, on his head. Wearing the sock around the apartment while consuming some more of Uncle Tom's magic cough syrup, Tony's creative juices got flowing. Somehow he was able to envision a toque made from these socks and thought it would be a good gag for the upcoming Christmas season. A visit to Walmart° for some socks, a local fabric shop for some fleece, and a few hours tutorial from his mother on the family sewing machine, soon Tony had a working prototype of the Pook Toque'. It took a few bags of socks wasted to get the right sizing of the cuts, but finally the toque came to its present form, and what a toque it is. The original demand Tony received from friends and relatives that found it to be a great toque got Tony to thinking there might be enough crazy people out there willing to wear it.
The POOK TOQUE:
Multifunctional and totally reversible. The pook toque is actually made of classic Canadian wool socks. It's a fashion statement. It's a lifestyle. More babies are being born because of this hat. It's even halting global warming. It has unlimited Styles and even comes with its own flowchart style guide.
I could go on and on and on about the powers of the pook toque. Even Angelina Jolie once said "the pook toque, making the world a better place one toque at a time"
