Top Ten Reasons Why Kevin Dineen Will Be the Next Star Coach in the NHL! If You Own One of the 30 Teams, You Especially Should Read This.
Peachy wrote this on the morning after seeing Kevin in Boston, prior to learning that night that Florida let him go, which was an absolutely bad decision on their part. A month later, Florida is 4-7 without Kevin, so we feel this is further evidence that Kevin was not the problem. Peachy's been in a black mood about this but is confident that one great team will see the light and be brilliant enough to hire him. If she owned the Rangers we would invite him here. Readers don't know Peachy ever to be in a black mood since we only publish on the positive, so you can imagine how strongly we feel about this list, and also for the record, Peachy has not spoken to Kevin since she published that video interview. Based on all that we know about Kevin since about 1984, here are the top ten reasons why we think Kevin is the most undervalued coaching commodity around.
Top Ten Reasons Why Kevin Dineen Will Be the Next Star Coach in the NHL
1. Determination. No one tries as hard with as much heart and soul as Kevin does, and achieves success in doing so.
2. Kevin is genetically inclined to succeed as a coach...ever heard of Bill Dineen?
3. Kevin played for Philadelphia under his dad so saw it all in action firsthand as well.
4. No one was listening to us in 1994 either when Peachy pleaded with her pen saying Joel Quenneville should coach the Hartford Whalers when he was coaching the Springfield Indians. Thank you Hartford Courant for publishing our editorials. Joel is not an overvalued commodity today but clearly he has proved his weight in gold, or at least Stanley Cups.
5. Hartford Alumni are a cerebral group of players as evidenced by front offices today in the NHL. If anyone says hockey players are not smart, we simply don't know what they are talking about. Joel, Ronnie, Kevin and all these guys played on the same team.
6. Likability and popularity help you out in coaching. How many times was Kevin voted favorite Whaler!!! (Peachy may have popped in more than one ballot...)
7. He also was the first Whaler to ever start an NHL All Star Game. That means he was one of the best players, so understands what it takes to make it.
8. Kevin overcomes adversity, such as with Crohn's disease.
9. Desire. He wants to win more.
10. Kevin knows that success comes down to relationships and when hockey is less like a business and more of a joy, the business of success wins. That translates into the bottom line.
