Complete with a gorgeous chandelier, The Caucus Room Brasserie at the Westin Georgetown is the crowning jewel of dining at the venue without a doubt.  Excelling in French culinary endeavors, The Caucus Room is also run by our friend Larry Work, previously mentioned in the Boveda review.   Especially since Larry also resides in France he knows quite a lot about how to have a successful French restaurant.
Though there is a convincing amount of wine to peruse, we went earlier in the day so Peachy Deegan was still very into caffeinated beverages (it was still light out...) and to that end, we are delighted to tell you that The Caucus Room is very serious about their excellent coffee.  They use Counterculture Coffee (this brand was contacted but we did not hear back from them) which we understand from Larry is a small boutique espresso/coffee brand that delivers once a week; they roast beans on request and ship them to the client the next morning.  You can definitely taste the quality.
Larry uses a Mazzer and Peachy even had a quick lesson on how they make the caffeinated beverages at The Caucus Room.  Clearly if you need to wake up in Washington, The Caucus Room is fantastic for that alone.
We really adored our salad option that we chose: Nicoise Salad: seared rare tuna, green beans, kalamata olives, redskin potato, parmesan cheese, smoked tomato, egg and shallot vinaigrette were a true party on a plate.  At the Caucus Room, they roast their own plum tomatoes and use grade one sushi tuna.  It was so fresh and delicious and we'd order this again.
Larry suggested we sample the crab cake which is served with shaved artichoke, celery and carrot salad.  All crab served is domestic which is good to know, and it's also all wild crab.  It's a beautiful presentation, and we loved how so much attention was given to style at The Caucus Room right to the French doors (see top picture) which open in the summer, so that is something to look forward to!  The staircase when you walk in is also grand.
Peachy's favorite item that she ate at The Caucus Room was the brussel sprouts and bacon.  That applewood smoked bacon is totally to-die-for and you are oblivious to the fact that you are actually eating vegetables.  This was so good you'd want to eat it 3 times a day for the rest of your life!  The brussel sprouts themselves were seared to perfection and basked in the majesty of that bacon.
Larry suggested we try the PEI mussels with white wine, garlic, shallots and tomato and they were terribly exquisite and so flavorful.  It's a generous portion and we imagine in the good weather it's just smashing to sit eating these with the french doors open, and then perhaps swim it off in the pool above (we are dying to meet that pool!).
As an entree, Peachy chose the Flounder which is served with caramelized onions, arugula salad, capers, parmesan cheese and brown butter.  The white flaky poisson was delightful and just the right kind of dish you'd want for a lighter early dinner.
