As you know if you are privy to Peachy Deegan's philosophies, there are two kinds of people in this world: those who are Irish, and those who wish they were. She thinks every day is St. Patrick's Day, but since it actually is around the corner we have ramped up our Irish coverage on everything recently as you may have noticed! There are a lot of Irish places in New York, but few really excellent ones...
Finnegan's Wake was previously featured back in 2011:
Owner Anthony King is a total peach, and Murphy Boyle (everyone's favorite canine rock star here) will be delighted to hear he is a Donegal man. Murphy's grandfather is also from Donegal, so he is pawing through his family tree to check for relations. Finnegan's Wake has been going strong since 1972, and that predates us. Anything going that long in Manhattan no matter what it is really says something.
Finnegan's Wake has a straightforward, solid menu that is certain to have something for everyone. We've been there three times formally and have always been delighted. Above, you see the Tossed Green Salad which is fresh and fantastic. They remembered to put dressing on the side. Some people are very laid back but Anthony is excellent at paying attention to details and we love it.
For our entree, we wanted fish of the day. From the three choices Peachy thought Boston Scrod was what she was in the mood for and it arrived grilled beautifully and blackened to perfection. A lovely baked potato came to the dinner party with a dollop of sour cream, also thoughtfully included on the side.
Going backwards, we opted for the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and although not exactly Irish, they definitely hit the spot.
Finnegan's Wake is Terrific Takeout!
Also note it is a super lucky place. Peachy went in the door with 19,993 Twitter followers but left Finnegan's Wake with 20k. Stay tuned-she believes she has talked Anthony into joining Twitter.
