Open since February 6, 2014, Angus Club Steakhouse on 55th and Lexington really impressed us on our inaugural visit. In case you have been reading, you know we love a superb steak and no, her name is NOT Peachy Vegan it is DEEGAN! In fact we cannot think of a single Deegan who is a vegan, or anyone Irish either that we know. Angus Club Steakhouse gets its name because they only serve pure black Angus. Angus Club Steakhouse is owned by four restaurant veterans who hail from Eastern Europe, all of whom are now American: Dino Gacevic, Zef Makaj, Margent Maslinka and Executive Chef Eddie Avdyli. Three of them shook our hand the minute we walked in the door of this temple of carnivorism! We worked directly with Dino, who was professional and did a great job. If you are an avid reader you know that he did, because we almost never put pictures of owners in the first review for Terrific Takeout. We like that all four are operating partners-we often see silent partners which is disappointing, because in our experience the best businesses are run by people who are present and passionate, among other qualities. Because we believe steakhouses should do fish as well as they do steak, as an appetizer we tried the Lobster Cocktail.
Shrimp cocktail seems common, but Lobster cocktail seems exotic. We were told fish delivery from Slavin and Sons happens every day at Angus Club Steakhouse, and the freshness of this crustacean will make you want to stop at this Club's station. The lobster was very easy to pull out of the shell and the cocktail sauce was good, however the quality of the lobster was so superior you might want to eat it straight, you know, like we drink Star Vodka. Angus Club Steakhouse gets HUGE POINTS for carrying the only vodka we drink and we didn't even know it until we got there. (Be sure to read Charles Kipps's new book with Peachy, Charles and Star Vodka!) If you are new to Whom You Know, Peachy reviewed Star Vodka in 2009 and is convinced there is not another vodka in the world that can compete.
A component of the review is always a green salad. We tried their signature edition: Angus Club Salad. This is composed of iceberg lettuce tossed with shrimp, green peas, tomatoes, onions, canadian bacon and roasted red peppers in their house vinaigrette. What a combination! Our favorite components were the shrimp and green peas and this could definitely be a meal by itself.
Some restaurants we go to have amazing appetizers, but when it comes to the entree we can be disappointed. Obviously, the entree should impress us the most and in this case, it blew us away. Every bite of the super tender Bone-In Filet Mignon which was perfectly medium as we asked just melted in our mouth. Eddie the chef personally picks out every cut of meat and you can tell.
We are crazy for mashed potatoes especially when they have garlic in them, and this side dish was extremely short-lived because Peachy could not stop eating it! The mashed potatoes are usually plain but they put garlic in it for the resident garlic monster of Whom You Know. The asparagus was also high caliber and a terrific side dish we'd order again. There is nothing not to love about this steakhouse and we hope our next experience there is just as great.
Except for the huge plus of having the best Christmas decorations in the world, New York is not so attractive weather-wise right now, and who in their right mind would not wish they were in Florida? Eating the wonderful Key Lime Pie at Angus Club Steakhouse will take you there in your tastebuds, and their cappuccino is also excellent.
Angus Club Steakhouse is absolutely Terrific Takeout!
We were psyched to see we did know their talented pianist Dunja, who told us she also gets her hair done at Warren Tricomi!
