You'll find a wide variation of musical styles on the 2015 Grammy Nominees Album, but when it comes to the quality of the music, there's no diversity here. Clearcut elite artists infiltrate your soul and spirit through your ears in a great array of modern hits from today on the 2015 Grammy Nominees Album, all leading up to the big night on February 8, 2015. Whom You Know is honored to review our first Grammy album ever and kick off coverage of RCA Records; thank you to The Recording Academy and RCA.
As each individual music consumer audibly peruses the work, of course certain songs will appeal to some more than others, and certainly you know quite a lot of them if you've interacted with pop culture at all in the last year! We applaud the order especially, as the opening "Shake it Off" (we also like the BC video version complete with dancing Jesuits) has an undeniable upbeat spirit from the cymbals to the smart, tight, snappy lyrics. Check your pulse if you don't start dancing to All-American and new Manhattan resident Taylor Swift's contribution nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. "Shake it Off" is one of three songs of 21 that is nominated for at least three awards. Bring at least one home to Manhattan, Taylor!
"Chandelier" by Australian Sia is also up for three: the same three as Taylor. This song has an ethereal positively haunting character, and the one, two, three is undoubtedly going to remind you of learning how to waltz. Sia's from Australia, and was lesser known to us originally however she is amazingly talented on this track; her bit of Carpe Diem has a nice sheen that will tantalize your ears. And, you know we adore Chandeliers literally.
Of the 21 songs on this album, even if it wasn't nominated for five awards, more than any other, "Stay with Me" (Dark Child Version) by Englishman Sam Smith has the most raw talent presented in a glorious hymn that will delve into your soul. Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album are what "Stay with Me" is nominated for, and we think Sam will be the biggest winner of the night on February 8th. We can't believe he's only 22, and the piece that CBS Sunday Morning did on him last fall was fantastic.
One of the most powerful new voices belongs to Ariana Grande, and with Iggy Azalea, Ariana just nails Problem and their contrasting voices blend well. Iggy also strikes a pose with her voice on Fancy, which is an entertaining tune with Charli XCX. Along with Pharrell Williams, Iggy is the only artist to have a double feature on this album (two songs) and if you don't consider yourself someone that would actually sing to a rap tune, think again once you hear her.
We were thrilled to see Faith Hill (thank you Faith for your Twitter follow!) team up with her husband, Tim McGraw on "Meanwhile Back at Mama's." Though we like the song order on the album and love the up-tempo start, this song is one that will make you cry. Its depth and powerful All-American message is one we loved, and its pure nostalgia will warm your heart. Keith Urban, Eric Church, and The Band Perry round out some other country hits and we particularly loved "Somethin' Bad" by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood (thumbs up for your good taste in hockey too), and "Daydrinking" and "Drunk In Love" also followed the Champagne Wishes theme.
"All About that Bass" (No treble, not trouble!) by Meghan Trainor is a song we've loved ever since the first time we've heard it. Perhaps our most trackable endorsement: we've only shared 60 photos & videos ever on Twitter and hers was one last July. Meghan gives females around the world someone to relate to who understands them and makes them feel good about themselves, and she gives all the little girls from Nantucket something new to dream about.
Katy Perry's Dark Horse has a truly original, futuristic feel to it and a beat that will pulsate into your subconscious. The first part of the album in general is nearly impossible not to dance to!
Overall, we found the female talent to be stronger than the male talent among the 21 songs, however, we were rocked by two guys from across the pond: Ed Sheeran (looks like he's the latest and greatest on Top Gear) and Hozier, who seems to have luck on his side particularly as this Irishman was born on March 17. "Sing" is absolutely the catchiest next to Taylor's aforementioned hit, and we would love to hear him do a duet with Paul McCartney (maybe over a Coke Float?) Sing! Louder! And if you are into quieter, Hozier's "Take Me to Church" has quite a lot of depth in its slower beat.
Forget your 99 Problems: your biggest one is that you're not in possession of the 2015 Grammy Nominees Album!
