Whom You Know is not about brands that are trendy, that come and go, or that are style with no substance. Whom You Know is all about quality and finding entrepreneurs that win at what they do (and are nice people!). If your stomach is interested in winning flavor and you like pizza, you ought to know about Majestic Pizza and Calzones. Like Point Break (formerly Nation's), Majestic Pizza and Calzones is a spot that Peachy has frequented since she moved to New York from New England. If you like Century 21 downtown, you know it is right next door to it. Shopping makes everyone hungry. We are now pleased to know the owner of Majestic Pizza, Pasquale Ditillio, who is at the helm of some of the best pizza we've had overall, and the best we have found in Downtown Manhattan at all. If you visit the World Trade Center area, this is right near there. Don't let the casual atmosphere fool you-the food is amazing. For our green salad option, we tried the Cobb Salad.
At lesser venues, vegetable quality can be questionable. You should know that this salad is supremely fresh and tasty, and of course balances out the pizza quite well. Grilled chicken, cucumbers, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, avocado and bleu cheese (the cheese itself, not the dressing) were beautifully presented and a bastion of nutrition (this last point is essential to spur on your activities next door-shopping requires energy). We've never ordered a salad here before and this was a successful start. Yes, they listened and put the dressing on the side. Two thumbs up for listening!
As an appetizer, we opted for the prosciutto with melon which is the embodiment of less is more. Though simple, it was sublime!
In our takeout criteria, we always order a large pizza at pizza places, and the large here is 18 inches. Pepperoni and mushrooms was our pizza of choice, and to add some color and vegetable we also asked for broccoli to join the pizza party. The crust is amazing-as you know New York pizza is better than non-New York pizza because of the great water here- and the crust was not too thick to be overly bready and not too thin and unable to hold up for the ingredients: it was just right for Ms. Goldilocks Ilovetoeatpizza.
It's sliced into eight pieces, and you'll devour them with glee, with your friends of course. All ingredients that graced the top were fresh and delicious and exactly as you'd want them to be.
Majestic Pizza and Calzones is Terrific Takeout!
