It's not who you know, it's Whom You Know and we are so pleased to know Pasquale Ditillio, who came to America from Italy when he was 15! Not only have we been eating his pizza since we moved to New York long before Whom You Know existed, but also we now know he's not just a great pizza maker. He's a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and was once of the first responders on 9/11/01. Majestic Pizza is only steps from Ground Zero, and it was closed for four months following, and while Majestic Pizza was closed Pasquale helped out. On September 12, he showed up not to make pizza but to help at Ground Zero. Knowing this makes his pizza taste even better!
Though we've been going to this venue for many years, we first formally reviewed it earlier this year:
Having a green salad with your pizza is a must, and the salads at Majestic are super fresh and healthy. They have six salad choices, and we chose the Garden Salad: cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, carrots, red bell peppers, olives and onions team up with mixed greens for a bevy of nutrition.
We love tomatoes and mozzarella hot or cold! As an appetizer, we opted for the chilled version: delightful fresh mozzarella with fresh tomatoes and basil and olive oil, and of course it was just as fantastic as the pizza. The pure simplicity of this evidenced the quality.
The pizza itself is without a doubt the piece de resistance of Majestic Pizza! The smell is tantalizing when it comes out of the oven, piping hot! We chose to add to the Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza both broccoli and garlic which we were incredibly happy with; the superb quality ingredients combined with the rich sauce and chewy crust that holds it all up with panache combines for a clear cut winner.
Majestic Pizza is uber-popular with corporate accounts as well as individuals, so if your company is one of the ones to start working in the new World Trade Center, go see Pasquale!
