Do you know you can go to Broadway and still be on the Upper East side?
No, Peachy has not become a comedy writer-but you will discover this answer to this riddle by the end of the review!
Established in 1925, Lexington Candy Shop is an absolute staple of Manhattan and a must-go-to spot, particularly in the summer. Started by the current owner, John Philis's grandfather, this bastion of luncheonette excellence is the last word in authenticity from this era. Going there is like going back in time, but with fresh food of course!
A quintessential sandwich, this visit we opted for the Ham, Swiss Cheese and Tomato Club which is just terrific on fresh rye, and we'd recommend both the mayo and mustard. It is a hit-the-spot kind of sandwich that also boasts fresh lettuce and tomato and a proper pickle.

and also earlier last year in Peachy's Picks:
In our balanced pursuit of somewhat healthy, we opted for the Traditional Country Greek Salad, which is both fresh and refreshing for summer with the cherry tomatoes bursting with flavor, the crisp cucumber, the sliced red onion and romaine. They thoughtfully put the dressing on the side, and drumroll please, our most favorite vegetable this trip:
You absolutely must try the "Heart Smart" onion rings. Sprayed with vegetable oil and cooked with hot air, these flavorful, cooked to perfection onion rings are the best we've had in Manhattan ever! Once they had their glamour shot, above, they lived for about thirty seconds and you know where they are happily resting now! We cannot wait to eat them again and you are going to love them too.
The real stars of the show right now are the refreshing cold drinks during the summer, and anything with ice cream. If you have never had a Fresh Lime Rickey before either, and this was our first, it is high time you do so. We even dressed to match it we were so excited! It's cherry syrup and an entire fresh squeezed lime blended together like an old-fashioned soda with seltzer and it is spectacular on a hot, sweltering day in New York; it is what Peachy is holding. You know we love pink and green together and this Lilly-Pulitzer-esque drink is wonderful!
We had thought we wanted a chocolate milkshake but then we thought coffee sounded amazing too. John told Peachy that she can have her cake and eat it too if she ordered the Broadway, which is half chocolate and half coffee ice cream in a milkshake, and the answer to the opening riddle!
Lexington Candy Shop continues to be Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.
We can't wait for their 100th Anniversary!
