Mount Vernon in Manhattan

A small non-profit museum, with a mission of preserving one of the few remaining 18th-century buildings in New York City, the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden is one of the older less well-known places in Manhattan worth checking out.

In addition to regular tours, the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden hosts special events:

Recently they opened a new exhibit in their Orientation Room, "The NYC Deaf Community in the 19th Century." It explores the struggles and achievements of the deaf community in early New York and is made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

On Sunday, March 15th, they have a lecture entitled, "Celtic Tea Traditions." Tea Master and author Elizabeth Knight will share anecdotes and provide ideas for hosting tea parties, drawn from contemporary and traditional Celtic celebrations.

On Tuesday, May 12th, they are hosting their first Garden Gala event of the season, with a lecture, "The Essential Jane Austen" by the Austen lecturer Elsa Solender.

Free tours and activities for Immigrant Heritage Week will be held on Saturday, April 18th, which is geared more toward families.
