MOVERS AND SHAKERS: Nancy Lombardo, Comedian
Nancy Lombardo has performed her unique comedy from coast to coast. She was the leading member of the award winning comedy troupe The First Amendment, performing with the likes of Robin Williams and Bruce Willis. Her skills as a writer and comedy coach have made her one of the most sought after talents in New York.
Nancy was a comedy consultant to John Leguizamo's Off-Broadway hit Mambo Mouth and wrote additional material for his HBO Special, The Talent Pool. She was also staff writer and performer for Leguizamo’s H.I.P- FOX comedy show, “House of Buggin."
Recent credits include The Colin Quinn Show NBC, Saturday Night Live as a dancing Greek in the opening Monologue, and a crazed Oprah fan. On “All my Children” and as a Court Judge on PBS.
Ms. Lombardo has been featured as a writer and performer on radio, network and cable television including, Comedy Tonight, Nickelodeon and the Comedy Channel. She also can be seen weekly on her Public access show The Nancy Lombardo Show channel 56/83 NYC and live worldwide on the internet WWW.MNN.ORG channel 56.
She has written for Penthouse and Cracked magazine and created Ms. Quotable, a comic strip for Lady's Circle Magazine and is the writer and voices for John Goodwin's computer animated short, “The Robot Factory."
Nancy was a winner of the Toyota Comedy Festivals "Laughter in Motion” and a Cable Arts Insight Comedy Award." Spot-lighted more than once in *Backstage, as both comedian and writer, she currently indulges her taste for the irreverent in her Stand Up Comedy and one woman show, "Jazz Housewife."
Nancy is the host and creator of MOMEDY, part of the International Mamapalooza Festival held every May in New York City. She recently roasted Vincent Pastore of Soprano fame and is a new member of The Friars club.
Nancy also has the audacity to have sung for Barbra Streisand and be proud of it. Nancy has been featured in numerous magazine articles and the cover of Show News Magazine and now she has made it as a Mover and Shaker on Whom You Know! Peachy Deegan recently met Nancy and chatted with her...
Peachy Deegan: Were you telling jokes in elementary school-when did you realize you were funny?
Nancy Lombardo: We moved around a lot, so I was always the new kid and got beat up a lot. In 3rd grade I discovered if you make people laugh they are less likely to pummel you. So the first thing I would do at each new school is head to the library and check out joke books...a comedian was born.
What comedians inspire you?
The early ones who combined song and dance like Burns and Allen and later Tome Leher and Lilly Tomlin and Steve Martin.
How did Momedy originate?
I first started performing my Momedy Comedy at the cutting room May 2002 as part of the First Mampalooza festival held. Joy Rose of the band Housewives’ on Prosac started the festival we met at a mom photo shoot... Mamapalooza has since become an international annual event. www.mampalooza.com
What are your top three favorite jokes?
I’m a new age woman…every time someone ask my age I give them a new one. I’m a mother of two..okay one's my husband. My mother was a terrible cook burnt everything now it’s called Cajun! Who knew?
Who are some of your most favorite people to work with and why?
People who love what they are doing as much as I do and people who of are the same mind about helping each other and giving back whether to each other or the community.
Do you think people can learn to be funny, or are some people just not funny? Everyone has a touch of the funny…whether they should pursue it as a career is another question.
Who is your favorite late-night comedian and why?
Conan O'Brien because I’ve been on his show…I wish there was a late night woman to choose from.
