NIGHTLIGHT: The Carnegie Club Presents “SOUNDS OF SINATRA” FEATURING Steve Maglio and The Stan Ruben Orchestra

On Saturday, March 7 Peachy Deegan and her friend Lucy went to the Carnegie Club to hear the “SOUNDS OF SINATRA” FEATURING Steve Maglio and The Stan Ruben Orchestra.
IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS SHOW, YOU NEED TO GO! Whom You Know highly recommends the “SOUNDS OF SINATRA” FEATURING Steve Maglio and had such a great time not only did we go to the 8:30 show, but we also stayed for the 10:30 show, which is a different set.

If you have been reading Whom You Know for awhile, you know that we endorse Patsy's and it is perfect to go to this show on a Saturday night after dining there. After being seated by friendly hostess Lindsay Benjamin, Lucy and Peachy drank a crisp, clean Pinot Grigio served by the equally courteous cocktail waitress Cybil while listening to the talented Maglio. Sitting in the Carnegie Club listening to this will transport you back in time to Old New York, in the classy, well-ventilated, smoking-allowed library-turned-lounge atmosphere. In fact, since we are not old enough to have experienced this the first time around, it is great to be able to do it now!

Maglio kicked off the 8:30pm show with "Can't Take That Away from Me," capturing the feeling of Sinatra without any tones of impersonation. Several favorites followed including "Witchcraft," and "Luck Be A Lady." "I've Got You Under My Skin" followed; Whom You Know is a fan of the Sinatra Duets CD and with the recent release of the U2 album and U2's New York appearances, Peachy Deegan was hoping Bono might have come in to join Steve Maglio on this number but no such luck. Maybe a duet is in the works...

Not only does Maglio sing well but he also breaks up the songs with a bit of comedy: "You can't buy happiness but you can pour it."

Many of the numbers were Cole Porter songs. Whom You Know has heard that Mr. Porter also is famous for writing the football songs at Yale!

The 10:30 show was just as good! Peachy Deegan liked "I Could Have Danced All Night" and "My Way" but there is nothing as good as "New York, New York!"
