BIG APPLE BUSINESS: PAUL KOHN DESIGN

PAUL KOHN DESIGN is the culmination of a twenty-year journey for two passionate collaborators, Elaine Paul and Barbara Shaltuck Kohn. Opened in 2007, the Tribeca home design studio and boutique boasts an extraordinary collection of hand-crafted and artisan pieces, as well as antiques and collectibles from around the world. As an ongoing expression of these two design visionaries, the company's mission is to inspire, to help nurture individual style, and to invigorate the personal spaces that make up the home. Award-winning designers Barbara Kohn and Elaine Paul have been friends and collaborators for over two decades. Both women enjoyed professional success in other fields before embracing their great passion for home design. Ms. Paul left a career as a respected trial attorney and judge to join her husband's Arizona-based manufacturing and design company, launching its interior design practice. Ms Kohn, a former investment banker, sought Ms. Paul's expertise on a residential design and quickly recognized a kindred spirit in style and sensibility. Their first collaboration earned a regional design award and was featured in several magazines and a book. Since then, their collective work has appeared in Metropolitan Home, Elle Decor, The New York Times, New York Spaces, The Home Office Book, House Beautiful, Phoenix Home & Garden and This Old House magazine. And NOW we present it to you here at Whom You Know!

BOUTIQUE
The store occupies a landmark building on Tribeca's picturesque Duane Park. In the spirit of a contemporary Idea House, the partners created a retail environment that would evoke the rich, layered aesthetic of a life well lived. The boutique is divided into rooms, each curated with a mix of new and old, modern and vintage pieces. As Elaine Paul explains, "We wanted people to feel like they were visiting a friend who just happens to have really great things." Elaine's daughter Amanda Paul oversees the New York studio and boutique, bringing her own practiced eye for design while cultivating a warm, inviting atmosphere.

MESQUITE COLLECTION - Mesquite is a uniquely dense wood, native to the southwest, with beautiful grain and exceptional depth of rich, warm color. PAUL KOHN DESIGN offers an exclusive private collection of tables, chairs and casegoods, each hand-crafted by a single artisan.

UPHOLSTERED COLLECTION - PAUL KOHN's signature collection of sofas, chairs and daybeds interpret classic silhouettes with an eye for stylish comfort. Each piece is constructed by one person from start to finish and crafted with luxe details like hand-tied springs and down cushions.

MATTHEW SOLOMON - The acclaimed ceramic artist offers signature pieces including his "Grand Tulip" bowl. In an exclusive arrangement with PAUL KOHN DESIGN, Solomon invites customers to select the color for an original, signed piece.
