SPRING 2009 COLLECTION
The Pink Tartan Spring 2009 collection is all about “sensible chic,” offering fabulous, wardrobe-building pieces for the contemporary, sophisticated woman. Designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran delivers all the classics with a sexy spin. Spending half her time in New York, Kimberley took inspiration from Madison Avenue, where women are no-nonsense and ultra-chic. The collection, which Kimberley calls “pretty, powerful and polished,” incorporates double cuff and collar details, and enamel buttons that give each piece a unique touch. The graphic good luck clover is now a brand icon, done in printed jersey, hardware and bathing suits.
For spring, Kimberley keeps her silhouettes simple and chic with a clean, tailored fit. Slim pencil skirts, ankle pants, blazers and patent leather trench coats in combinations of pink, black and white create a feeling of uptown elegance, while ruffled blouses, ribbon skirts and tulle-covered skirts give the collection some romantic flair. Everything from delicate floral prints, ultra-feminine full skirts and nautical-inspired striped knits to chic “urban safari” trench dresses and twill motorcycle jackets can be combined to create a look that is classic with a twist.
Sumptuous fabrics like double face cotton and wool crepe give the clothes an understated luxury without being too heavy. Super fine pima cottons and high twist Sea Island cotton are used in knits and sweaters. Ponte di Roma shell dresses, skinny pants and high waist skirts are essentials for spring, as are Kimberley’s stretch twill shift dresses and super-soft cable knit cardigans that come in an assortment of vibrant hues.
An avid collector of modern art and vintage magazines, Kimberley took inspiration from contemporary artists by incorporating brush stroke and splatter prints into her collection. Kimberley’s recent trip to Istanbul also inspired the graphic designs used in her silk jersey dresses and shirts.
