PRODUCT ALERT: BVLGARI presents GOMMAGE ECLAT- Interview with Professor Jean-Paul MARTY
Interview with Professor Jean-Paul MARTY – scientific advisor of the Cosmetic Research Department of BVLGARI
At Whom You Know, we believe in details and so today we present a follow up to our product review last night! Not only have the fabulous people at BVLGARI (thank you Dana) created an excellent skincare line, but they also educate us about them.
Why is the use of an exfoliator so important?
The use of an exfoliating product allows the skin to get rid of all dead cells and impurities that cannot be removed by a simple cleansing programme. Furthermore, if the skin is not adequately exfoliated, dead cells and impurities clog its surface making the penetration of other treatments less effective.
Is it better to use a mechanical, chemical or biological exfoliator?
There is no “best in class” exfoliator. Each of them has both pros and cons. The mechanical scrub guarantees a good exfoliating power but is not homogeneous for the diverse skin face areas. Furthermore mechanical scrubs can provoke rashes to dry or sensitive skin.
Chemical scrubs guarantee a very regular, homogeneous and deep exfoliation. However this technique, based on the use of fruit or flower acids, might be irritating and cause unpleasant burning feelings to the most sensitive skins.
Biological scrubs ensure a regular and homogeneous exfoliation. There is no need to massage them on the face and they contain known biological ingredients like enzymes, that are effective without being irritating and therefore are fit for dry or sensitive skin types. The exfoliating power, though, could be not strong enough to meet the requirements of mixed or oily skins.
In a mechanical exfoliator, are the size and the shape of the exfoliating particles very important? Do they have any influence on the problem of irritation?
Definitely yes, their size and their shape are really important. These are two criteria we took into account to select our exfoliating particles.
As you know, in a mechanical exfoliator, the mechanical action is done by particles but also by the hands of the users which will massage the product and so move the particles on the face to finally exfoliate it.
If the particles are not spherical, when moving with hands, particles will generate frictions leading to irritation. In addition, the bigger the particles, the more the exfoliation risks being irregular.
This is the reason why the Cosmetic Research Department of BVLGARI selected the Tahitian Micro-pearls complex which is composed of very small and completely spherical micro-spheres to provide a soft, non-irritating and homogeneous exfoliation with a good exfoliating power able to answer all skin types’ needs.
