READ THIS: Car Girls by Jacqueline Hassink

Whom You Know generally recommends READING books in this column, but today we are going to take the fork in the road and take a deviation from the standard and we will recommend LOOKING at this fabulous work of art. Not only has it made our READ THIS, but it is also a great collectible gift for those that appreciate art, cars, and women. Only 1,500 were published.

In Car Girls, Jacqueline Hassink, over a five year long journey of NEW CAR SHOWS (we emphasize NEW as there are several outstanding antique car shows, collectible car shows, and car shows specific to a car type: i.e. Corvette shows)captures the art and marketing strategies between the hot new car and the woman selling the latest model.

When the model sells the latest model, Jacqueline is there with her lens across brands, across cultures and around the world. Although the vehicle, the make, and the setting may differ, the relationship between auto and eros is constant. Although the strategy is corporate, when a human begins interaction with the power of the vehicle the energy of the potential sale is observed by Hassink.

From Detroit to Paris to Tokyo, the Dutch-born Hassink, while photographing this silent interaction does indeed show why women through fashion, visual appeal and overall corporate strategic intelligence are successful in selling the latest cars.

Included in the work is an essay by Tim Dant and an interview with the artist. The book is produced by Aperture, dedicated to publishing the finest in creative photography for over fifty years.
