A Breath of Spring - May 15 - May 17 - The Lyme Art Association in Mystic showcases art and floral design as it transforms its galleries into a floral oasis with extraordinary arrangements that are inspired by local works of art. In cooperation with the Essex Garden Club, the exhibit will "burst into bloom" on Friday, May 15th at the evening preview party from 6pm-8pm, Saturday May 16th from 10am-5pm and Sunday May 17th from 1pm-5pm. Connecticut Film Festival - June 2 - June 7 - Taking place in Danbury and Newton, this festival celebrates the state's culture and diversity with six days and nights with over 130 Indie films, music, parties, networking and more than 100 educational events. Through the creative means of film, video and music the annual event is well-suited for the average film-buff. Living Modern in New Canaan - Now through June 19 - The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism proudly displays theLiving Modern in New Canaan: Celebrating and Preserving our Modern Past exhibit. The second-floor gallery at the organization will showcase an exhibit revolving around the modern homes which are abound in New Canaan, CT. On May 16th, CCT will host a day long event fit for the architectural enthusiast; conducting walking tours of architectural landmarks that will be available at 11:30 am. Following, Dr. Dietrich Newmann, professor of the history of modern architecture at Brown University and the Yale School of Architecture, will give a lecture on the importance of Modernism at the Wadsworth Athenaeum's Avery Theater in Hartford. Hartford Preservation Alliance will also be providing walking tours on May 19, 21, 26 and 28 at noon, departing from the Constitution Plaza. Start your floral excursion at the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem, an antique-filled 1754 landmark home to formal parterre garden with roses, peonies and lilacs. Next visit theWhite Flower Farm in Litchfield, a family-owned mail-order nursery that maintains five acres of display gardens open to the public. Have a pre-dinner drink with a wine sample and tour at the Haight-Brown Vineyard in Litchfield. After, enjoy a meal at aWest Street Grillin Litchfield, a popular restaurant known for its exquisite wine. Later stay at the Marigold Garden Bed & Breakfast in New Preston, a historic house with scenic gardens. The next day, take a country drive through the Farmington Valley to Elizabeth Park in Hartford. The park is home to the oldest municipally operated rose garden in the country, with two and a half acres of 800 rose varieties, totaling 15,000 plants.
