Etiquette from Connecticut: Please do not hit me with your umbrella!
We started Etiquette from Connecticut as we all want to be people that others want to know.
A friendly reminder to Manhattanites in such wet weather: mind your umbrella! We are all in a hurry all the time in Manhattan, but in crowded streets please be considerate with your umbrella, and considerate in general, which means:
*When you open your umbrella, do it out in open space! If you don't see any, find some. Open space is necessary, and much better than opening it in someone's face!
*Stay to the right, just like traffic.
*If you are tall do not walk into the umbrella of a short person. They really can't hold it any taller.
*If you are short do not put your umbrella into the back, leg, etc. of a tall person.
*Both points above speak to the general idea of minding your own personal space and respecting personal space of others around you!
*When closing your umbrella, again, do it in open space. No need to shake all over the place like a cute litte lab, unless you are a cute little lab doggie.
*If you go in a store, restaurant, someone's home, etc with your wet umbrella, leave it at the door.
