June 20 Glenn Horowitz Bookseller and Adam Bartos

Please join us at a reception and book signing
Saturday, June 20th, from 6 to 8p.m.

With his new publication, Adam Bartos has taken a traditional summertime staple and created a fascinating commentary on Americana, and the relationship between the precious object and the ephemeral. His still- lifes of "chance meetings" find compositional catalysts in vacuum cleaners, and board games, portrayed with a mostly objective eye, only suggesting the smallest hint of their formal properties. A pair of weathered skateboards is silhouetted against black asphalt littered with grass clippings, a close-up of the shimmering coral-colored interior of a mid-century suitcase is boldy contrasted against a blue rhinestone and white linens; each image conjures up glimpse of someone else's lifestyle, a narrative of outgrown toys and discarded hobbies. Straying away from becoming nostalgic, Bartos's images read more like anthropological studies than a longing of obselete playthings. Photos from Yard Sale will be on exhibition during the reception and, beginning June 26th, as part of an exhibition at The Drawing Room.

The book signing is being held at the Glenn Horowitz Bookseller East Hampton shop on 87 Newtown Lane.
