DAYLIGHT: MILANO UNICA Presents On Stage: The project dedicated to emerging international fashion talents
“Directions”, trend guidelines compiled by the Moda In Creative Team, was presented today at the Mandarin Oriental, New York. A fabulous morning event attended by those on the cutting edge of fashion in New York and Milan, "Directions" was upbeat, optimistic and had the right attitude in this economy. The four major trend categories discussed enlightened the audience as much as they will enlighten the fashion world in months to come. Peachy Deegan heard the words of "facing a new time of excellence...where we will dare without provoking and surprise with out shocking....[it will be] a move-forward experiment."
Who will wear the colors, fabrics and accessories proposed in fall-winter 2010-11? Those individuals satisfied by the state of the economy or those whose buying power will resist throughout the economic downturn? Will the glamour of Made in Italy be affordable to few or to many? Whom You Know believes that we all will participate in some pieces although possibly not as many as usual...and we do not believe President Obama has any influence on Italian fashion as the press release suggests. He is not the next Jackie Kennedy!
There are numerous questions and some fundamental certainties: consumers are becoming more aware of the quality/price factor (one purchases quality, not image); there is also a strong desire for change (as if the crisis acts as a “purifier”); during these difficult times, the only thing not to do is stand still or look back to the past (one must move forward, make progress and experiment).
Prof. Giuseppe Di Donna, presents a macro vision of social trends at the “Directions” conference table, “the crisis is a planetary phenomenon, after the initial phase of “stupefaction and depression” the more reactive areas of the globe are starting over with new vitality, novelty ideas and creativity. One has the impression of departing on a new course, perhaps with a vague point of arrival, but with a strong commitment to complete this journey”. He was an excellent speaker and had much to contribute.
Trend expert Angelo Uslenghi has captured and confirmed this social tendency even in the textile-accessory sector. “New excellence means not only to preserve, but to dare without provocation, surprise without shocking”. Clearly, that is who Peachy heard! It incites us not to lose those acquired traditional standards and to tastefully “mix” conventional and avant-garde ideas. New materials are the result of hybridization, inventive blends of natural animal and vegetable fibers. Contemporary adventures will allow those who made the right choice to move forward appropriately in order to acquire new shares in the market.
Pay special attention to details, characterized by unending imagination and chromatic and material movements. Focus on vibrant colors that gently shade into fibers, yarns and dyes; digital and screenprinting techniques for artistic placed prints, together with nanotechnology. These will be devices for innovation and hybridization on both fabrics and accessories.
Four themes are proposed.
Open Air : Concreteness and innovation for healthy activism
Open Mind: Meditative potential and imagination outlet
Rush Hour: Frenetic pace and revitalizing stimuli
Happy Hour: Eccentric touches for escapist moments
This edition of “Directions” has been enriched with the display of four traditional panels entitled “Trend Directions”. An integral part of the video production procedure, the panels are assembled using fabric and accessory prototypes of artisan production, developed by the Creative Team.
The upcoming edition, the 52nd Moda In, Milano Unica IX, is scheduled for September 8-11, 2009 at the Portello - Fieramilanocity, where creations inspired by today's propositions are tastefully combined with the expertise of the Stylistic staff of exhibiting firms can be admired.
Milano Unica has inaugurated the On STAGE project which will be launched in its IX edition.
On September 8th, the first day of the fair, ten international talents will present an anthological collection of 15 looks each, at the stunning terrace of Fieramilanocity.
The Milan catwalk will be an important opportunity for these ten designers as they will make their creative debut in Milan, the fashion capital of Italy. Their dedication to research in fabrics and design is a decisive factor in the selection of these talents.
In addition Milano Unica will provide ten spaces trough out the fair, each representing a guest designer. The spaces will be a meeting point for visitors. In them they find inspiration and reference for their work.
The On Stage project reflects the ability of the Milanese textile event to create an important fashion moment, while bringing together the excellence of European textiles under one roof.
With this initiative, Milano Unica has taken another step in the right direction by coordinating various elements in the international fashion arena. The main objective is to unite the creativity of emerging designers with the outstanding representatives of European textile production.
Milano Unica is grateful to Australian Wool Innovation for its support, in particular for the On STAGE project, considered by AWI an ideal moment to relaunch the renowned Woolmark label.
The Ministry of Economic Development, the Foreign Trade Commission (ICE) and Fiera Milano Spa have collaborated on this initiative.
Whom You Know just might have to Take a Trip to Milan!
