She May Be Old, But She's Not Old Fashioned: Lady Liberty Finds Her Voice on Twitter, Flickr and Virtual Tour
She may be 123 years old but don't ever say Lady Liberty isn't 'with it' when it comes to staying on top of new ways to communicate with her fans. Admirers of the Statue of Liberty can see a whole new side of her on Twitter, Flickr and at www.nps.gov/stli
"We are thrilled to be able to share this year's July 4 Independence Day celebrations at the Statue of Liberty. This year, we're using technology that keeps the public connected to this special event and communicating with each other in new and fun ways,” said National Parks of New York Harbor Commissioner Maria Burks. "In fact, you may even wonder if Lady Liberty is hiding a PDA or digital camera on top of her stone tablet."
Visitors can follow Twitter and Flickr to see the day's events unfold, but they can also visit the Statue of Liberty from their own home by taking the new Statue of Liberty National Monument eTour. Peachy Deegan is looking forward to coverage of Lady Liberty on July 4th! She will tell you all about what she sees in person if you do not go...
Take the Ultimate Head Trip!
If you can't visit the Statue of Liberty in person, don't despair. If you've always wanted to get 'inside' Liberty's head, now you can, virtually that is. The new eTour features and insider's view of the crown, a video bird's eye view of the statue, panoramic views of the harbor from the statue and the voices and words of the rangers and caretakers of Lady Liberty. The eTour is also a great way to listen, watch and learn more about the story behind making of the Statue of Liberty. You can learn about the symbolism residing in the original design of the statue.
