READ THIS: Krizia. Una Storia by Isa Tutino Vercelloni
Not only do we feel it is important to look fashionable here at Whom You Know, we also feel it is important to be knowledgeable about it.
The fabulous people of Krizia have given us this book about their long history, which if we were bilingual in Italian, we would have enjoyed twice as much as the whole book is in two languages. Of course, we read the English part!
Mariuccia Mandelli loved visiting the tailor's shop of her childhood more than going to the movies-this set the stage for her ideas embracing the spirit of contradiction that would begin the Krizia dresses and by 1954 she had a premiere and five or six workers.
A name taken from a character in one of Plato's dialogues, Krizia has been a trendsetter for decades, embracing black and white in Florence in 1964 that captured the "Critique of Fashion" prize. Krizia was then influenced by animals in the late 60's and 1970s, and in the 1980's, was pleat-happy and designed creations inspired by the Chrysler building.
Not only is the history of the brand interesting, but the photos in black in white in this book tell the story that the words can not. Also the portrait of her by Andy Warhol is fabulous. We at Whom You Know were not at all surprised that she is an Aquarius and her decades of inspirational creativity surely will continue, brought to you in Manhattan by Joe at her Madison Avenue store.
