Upcoming Events at the New England Air Museum
NEAM's Birthday Bash - 50th Anniversary Celebration
On Sunday, October 4, come celebrate the Museum's 50th anniversary with a day of fun-filled activities. These include a raffle to sit in the cockpit of the B-29 Superfortress or the Sikorsky VS-44 Flying Boat, historic re-enactments, and family scavenger hunts with prizes. Also, meteorologists from Talcott Mountain Science Center will make 3 presentations about the weather events that lead to the Windsor Locks tornado of 1979 and conditions that help create major storms and much more. A food vendor will be on-site all day, and birthday cake will be offered to everyone.
Open Cockpit Sunday, October 18
Climb into approximately 10 aircraft and play pilot. Additional activities are being planned to make this day fun for the whole family. The program includes WWII and modern aircraft, several helicopters and the vintage DC-3 airliner. A food vendor will be on site all day.
An Evening Presentation by Theodore J. Van Kirk
On Friday, October 9, "Dutch" Van Kirk, the "Enola Gay" navigator, will talk about the history of the 509th Composite Group and the atomic bombing mission against Hiroshima. Afterwards, books on the history of the 509th Composite Group will be available for purchase and autographing. The program costs $10 for Museum members and $20 for non-members. Doors open at 6:00, the program begins at 7:00 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. On Thursday evening, October 8 the Museum will host a private dinner with "Dutch" for 25 guests at $125 per person. For more information call Mike at (860) 623-3305 ext. 12.
Women Take Flight
On Sunday, November 8, NEAM will present one of its signature events. Meet an extraordinary group of women pilots, authors, balloonists, engineers & re-enactors. Programs and presentations will be held throughout the day. Additional information will follow and a food vendor will be on site all day.
Two Great Programs the Day After Thanksgiving
On Friday, November 27, enjoy two annual events at the Museum. The Behind-the-Scenes Tour will let you take a close-up look at many of the Museum's current restoration projects including the WWII Navy Blimp car, the B-29 Superfortress, the Regulus I missile, the A-26 Invader, the Sikorsky S-59 helicopter and several vintage engines. Also, take a tour of the Museum's Research Library. Escorted tours will run from 10:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For our younger visitors, Santa Claus will officially open the holiday season with a visit to the New England Air Museum from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. He will talk with children aboard one of our aircraft. Every child will receive a gift.
