WHAT:WEEK FIVE OF THE MERCEDES-BENZ POLO CHALLENGE AT BLUE STAR JETS FIELD ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 15th, 2009

This summer’s matches promise to be some of the most exciting in the sport of polo. The sport’s greatest athletes will compete for one of polo’s most treasured prizes. Returning as well will be some of the East End’s most high-profile and influential audience of VIPs, celebrities and media.

The season commenced on Saturday, July 18th and will continue for six consecutive Saturdays, ending August 22nd. Ikepod (9) defeated Certified (8) in overtime on Saturday, August 15, 2009.

Season partners include: Mercedes-Benz, Diamond Teak, Piaget, Blue Star Jets, Coca-Cola, Stoli Elit, Riva Yachts, illy issimo, and Rose’s Mojito Cocktail Mix.

Polo Ralph Lauren will return this summer as the exclusive apparel retailer with an onsite shop at the Bridgehampton Polo matches. Evocative of the spirit and heritage of Polo, the shop will feature Ralph Lauren’s Black Watch collection and The World of Polo Fragrance. Spectators visiting the Ralph Lauren shop will have a great view of the polo matches and be able to enter to win a Polo lesson with Black Watch team member Nacho Figueras. Polo Ralph Lauren became an official sponsor of the Black Watch Polo team in 2007, providing apparel created exclusively for the polo players.

This American-owned 18-year establishment is the first furniture company to make a net positive contribution to the environment. A portion of proceeds from the Mercedes-Benz Bridgehampton Polo Challenge will go to South Fork Breast Cancer Coalition. The VIP tent will host an invitation-only cocktail reception for exclusive guests each Saturday afternoon during the tournament. Matches will take place from 4PM to 6PM.

This Saturday, August 22, 2009 will be the sixth and final week of the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at Blue Star Jets Field. After five successful weeks of VIP guests, media, and celebrity attendees including Jon & Kate Plus 8’s Jon Gosselin, Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford, reality television star Kourtney Kardashian and boyfriend Scott Disick, Desperate Housewives’ Kyle MacLachlan, Beth Ostrosky, Star Jones, former co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios Ben Silverman, True Beauty’s Nolé Marin, racecar driver Tim George Jr., actor Sebastian Stam, Michael Lohan, Dina Lohan, Erin Muller and the Real Housewives of New York City’s Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen, Jill and Bobby Zarin, Ramona and Mario Singer, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, and Kelly Killoren Bensimon, the season will close with the most anticipated match of the season.
