"The Mexican Fashion Revolution" Carla Fernandez

Mexican designer Carla Fernandez discusses fashion, social responsibility, and her collaborations with Mexican artisans. Named the UK’s 2008 “Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year” for her visionary work on ethical fashion, Fernandez has designs in the permanent collections of The Museum at FIT and the RISD and Kobe Museums. One of her outfits is featured in the MFIT exhibition Fashion & Politics. Organized in collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York.

"Where Fashion & Politics Meet: Staying on Message" by Robin Givhan

Robin Givhan, Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion editor of The Washington Post, will discuss the cultural and social interplay of fashion and politics. In her prolific career, Givhan has covered the Obama family and contributed to a book on Hillary Clinton.

Fashion can function as propaganda, as political expression, or as a medium for raising consciousness about diverse social issues. Join Jennifer Farley, exhibition curator, as she examines the history of politics and fashion. Tour begins in the museum lobby.

"Rebel Rebel: Anti-Style" Keanan Duffty

British musician-turned-fashion designer Keanan Duffty explores the ironic connections between fashion and music. Duffty’s celebrity clients have included David Bowie, the Sex Pistols, Avril Lavigne, and Sarah Jessica Parker, and he was regularly featured on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. A signing of his book, Rebel, Rebel: Anti-Style, will follow the lecture.

"Moods of Norway" Peder Børresen and Simen Staalnacke

The youth-oriented label Moods of Norway has garnered unprecedented international acclaim in just under five years. Co-founders Peder Børresen and Simen Staalnacke will discuss how they established their fashion line—and in the process brought renewed attention to their homeland. Organized in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Consulate General.
