Debut Events Featured at the 2009 Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival Presented by Food & Wine and Travel+Leisure Magazines

From meatballs and southern comfort all the way to the James Beard House, Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival founder and director Lee Brian Schrager is pleased to announce the new line up of events featured at the 2009 Festival. Taking place this Columbus Day weekend, all of the proceeds from the Festival will again benefit the hunger-relief organizations Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength®.

An unprecedented dinner series in conjunction with the James Beard Foundation will include: o Thursday, October 8th: A five-course dinner with Michelin-decorated chef Alain Ducasse, cooking in the Beard House kitchen for the first time, along with Joel Dennis of Adour and Pierre Schaedelin of Benoit Bistro o Friday, October 9th: 2009 James Beard Foundation Award winner “Best Chef New York City” Gabriel Kreuther of The Modern will host an Oktoberfest Dinner o Saturday, October 10th: The intersection between food and fashion will be examined at the highly anticipated dinner hosted by accomplished cook and fashion designer Zac Posen, joined by Emmy Award-winner Giada De Laurentiis host of Food Network’s Giada at Home and James Beard Foundation Award-winner Marcus Samuelsson o Sunday, October 11th: Chocoholics will unite to indulge in savory courses and a grand parade of desserts at the Jacques Torres & Friends Chocolate Brunch, where Torres will be joined by Alain Sailhac in the Beard House kitchen Saturday night, October 10th, Food Network’s Ms. Southern Hospitality herself Paula Deen (Paula’s Best Dishes) and friends bring a taste of the South to the City during Down South Up North presented by Allen Brothers. Taking place at Hill Country, Paula Deen rustles up sons Jamie and Bobby Deen, along with friends Art Smith, Chris Lilly, Katie Lee Joel, Matt and Ted Lee, and Hill County’s own Elizabeth Karmel to show the North a real homecoming of flavor paired with foot stomping live music.
Southern cuisine will reign supreme with at least three different fried chicken recipes, some of Chris Lilly and Hill Country’s award-winning barbeque, paired with all the classic fixins’ and polished off with plenty of Hound Dog Sweet Tea Vodka, plus Grandma’s perfect confections. The Festival weekend will come to a close with the blowout of the decade, saluting Little Italy’s most iconic contribution to New York City’s culinary landscape – Meatball Madness presented by San Pellegrino hosted by Giada De Laurentiis. Taking place at la venue, the festivities will feature culinary talent like Andrew Carmellini, Frank Falcinelli, Frank Castronovo, Joey Campanaro, John Delucie, Michael Lomonaco, Michael White, Food Network’s Alex Guarneschelli (The Cooking Loft), and even Momma Nicolina – Rocco DiSpirito’s mom. Some of the finest chefs in town will compete for a cash prize provided by Pat LaFrieda Wholesale Meat Purveyors in a blind tasting, as judged by a panel of restaurateurs and food critics.
