NIKE LAUNCHES NIKE PRO BASE LAYER APPAREL SPECIFICALLY FOR FEMALE ATHLETES
Since 2003 the Nike Pro line of base layer apparel has served as athletes’ first line of defense on game day, providing temperature regulation, comfort and protection in the heat of battle. Since its initial launch, Nike has relentlessly innovated to apply new technologies and fits to the line that help athletes achieve their highest level of performance.
For Spring 2010, Nike continues its long history of innovation with a new line of Women’s Nike Pro performance base layer apparel for women. Incorporating insights from female athletes at all levels, from top professionals to teen girls, Nike has updated the fit, fabric, function and color of the line to address the specific needs of the female athlete.
Athlete insights led to the following innovations:
- Eliminate distraction by moving or removing seams.
- Remove chafing with strategically placed gussets.
- Tailor the fit to a woman’s body, making it fit so comfortably that she never has to adjust a thing.
- Give it style, with bright colors and fun, youthful prints.
The Spring 2010 collection falls into three product categories:
-Nike Pro for Competition: Engineered to suit the needs of the athlete on game day, these compression products form the layer between her and her uniform.
- Nike Pro for Training: Tightly fitted but looser and more relaxed than compression gear, these products can be worn layered or on their own.
- Nike Hyper Cool: Provides heat regulation to keep her cool and comfortable.
KEY WOMEN’S NIKE PRO PRODUCTS
One of the most important items in the new line is the base layer piece, which serves as the fundamental item every female needs, whether she’s hitting the playing field or the treadmill: the bra.
The newly designed Nike Pro Bra incorporates key updates and innovations to make it an absolute must-have:
- Vents moisture from areas where she sweats the most
- Shorter straps and higher neckline for more coverage
- Slightly relaxed band underneath the bust for more comfort and less restriction
- Re-crafted binding and strap finishing to eliminate seams and distraction
- Comes in a variety of colors and patterns
- Improved seam lines for a better marker efficiency
Nike Pro Hyper Cool Tank: With a more youthful and less confining fit than previous versions, the Nike Pro Hyper Cool Tank features a mesh ventilation system designed to work with the Nike Pro Hyper Cool Bra. The back seams have been bonded for a clean finish and zero distraction, and side seams were moved to the back to eliminate underarm chafing. Slimmer shoulder straps reduce weight.
Nike Pro-Core Short: Featuring three different lengths (2.5”, 5” and 7”) and a heavier fabric for more coverage, these shorts are wearable on their own or as a base layer. A gusset has been added to the inseam for a clean finish and to help eliminate chafing. Seams were moved to the back and a softer elastic waistband was added, both of which provide more comfort and less distraction.
Fitted Sleeveless, Short Sleeve and Long Sleeve Shirt: The neckline has been lowered and opened up on all to make these styles less constricting around the neck and easier to pull over the head. Raglan sleeves provide a better fit for more bodies. Shoulder seams have been moved to the front and back so the seam doesn’t rub under her uniform. A gusset has been added under the arm to eliminate the traditional seam and prevent chafing and distraction. The shirt length has also been increased to prevent rolling up, and the hip fit is opened up so it’s not too tight.
