October 17 Amanda Dolan unveils her latest exhibit “Precious Things” at the Ward Nasse Gallery

From our Mover and Shaker, Amanda Dolan:

On Saturday night, October 17th, mixed-media artist, Amanda Dolan, will reveal her latest exhibit at the Ward Nasse Gallery entitled “Precious Things,” bringing together a collection of her most recent inspirations, all of the simple things in life that she holds most “precious” and dear.

The new show, self-described as “over the top kitchy,” will include ice cream cones, rainbows, a hint of leopard print, and lots of florals inspired by her fashion favorite, designer Betsey Johnson. The concept of the show itself came to be after seeing Tori Amos perform her song “Precious Things” at Radio City Music Hall.  This kick-started the idea for an exhibit filled with all of Amanda’s beloved trinkets. “Everything in life can be precious,” claims Amanda, “from a rainbow to a broken heart.”

The new collection will include more mixed-media art, pet portraits, a few classics from the past, and her first foray into sculpture work with what she is dubbing, “post-modern flower pots.”   For Amanda, this exhibit feels extremely free because it is not so overly thematic, “I had no boundaries this time around, I just wanted to put together all of my prized possessions…the mood is salty sweet.”

“Precious Things” serves as a follow-up to her to her first three shows, “She’s a Lady” (which explored the inside of a woman’s heart and mind), “Call Me Crazy,” (a series of collage portraits of famous women throughout history who had been labeled as “crazy”) and, most recently, “Heart Attack” (which chronicled the iconic “heart” in its many incarnations).   While her first two shows showed us her darker side, “Heart Attack” was the first hint of her current happiness.  With “Precious Things,” she feels more alive than ever, as this is truly an open show with no boundaries.
Outside of her ongoing exhibitions, Amanda also creates private commissions.  Patrons can send her a favorite image of their pet, children, memory—whatever that something might be—and Amanda will add her abstract collage flare, which can be customized to the client’s specific color scheme or aesthetic needs.

An avid animal lover, Amanda also remains involved in her community and, most recently, she walked in the “Paws For Style” charity fashion show to benefit the Humane Society of New York.  Amanda and her French Bulldog, Pearl, were dressed by fashion designer Richie Rich of the Heatherette brand, and had the honor of walking with Richie in the show.  Amanda also contributed by offering up her pet portrait services for the charity auction.
