Peachy Deegan Visits the New York Historical Society to View Lincoln and New York

We first told you about this exhibition on Lincoln at the New York Historical Society:

It is fabulous and puts a new spin on everything that you thought you already knew about one of our most famous Presidents.  Among the aspects of the exhibition we liked most were:

*The Appearance of a Statesman.  Early in the exhibit, this appealed to us as it combined fashion, photography, perception and the presidency.  As photography emerged, it was important for whoever was the President to look the part.

*The Union Square Rally on April 20, 1861.  It is one of the earliest photographs of a public event in New York City.

*The New York Copperheads at the Bar.  If alive today we believe they would be on our site reading Champagne Wishes

*Decoding the Cartoon.  Fun for all ages!  Who doesn't love cartoons and these are educational as well.  Entertainment in an exhibit we view as positive.

*The Wheel of Misfortune.  A lottery wheel with draftees names on cards was given to the New York Historical Society in 1865 with 3,500 cards still in it....

*The Investing Money Interactive Screen.  How fun to see what it was like to invest then, although in a simplified way.

*The Brooks Brothers Replica of the coat made for Lincoln's second inaugural

One point that Peachy Deegan found most interesting was the Media Revolution.  For the first time then, events that occurred in one week were able to be drawn, printed, and distributed to a mass audience by the end of the next week.  What would they think of us seeing the exhibit this morning and posting on it this afternoon?  We wish they were here to read whomyouknow.com!
