Peachy Picks The Mott
We first told you about The Mott under Tasty Tidbits:
We are pleased to recommend it and elevate its status to Peachy's Picks! The outstanding cuisine, the superb service and the warm atmosphere have earned it our accolades. Located at 173 Mott Street, The Mott opened this past July and is going strong! Chef Brian Murphy, formerly of Blue Plate in San Francisco, expertly serves some outstanding entrees that will welcome you back again and again.
As you know, Peachy Deegan is by no means a downtown girl but she loved The Mott. We cannot say that we were patrons of the former establishment that was at 173 Mott Street, but from what we understand from our sources, The Mott is a 500% improvement. When you walk in the door immediately you are transported into a warm, clean, inviting atmosphere. Daniel, our server, was attentive at every minute and did the little things like make sure we had new silverware before each course was served and he did it with an excellent attitude and smile. The Edison bulbs lit from above in the unique copper ceiling give a warm, modern aura that lights up your food just enough to enjoy it while creating atmosphere.
Peachy Deegan started with the Crispy Pork Belly with cox pippin apples, easter-egg radish and spring lettuce. The pork was cooked to perfection and the garnishes were not only lovely to look at but they were an excellent complement to this First Course.
The Whom You Know dining panel was then treated to Bone Marrow on wet salt and Cippolini and marmalade which were simply outstanding. The quality of the cuisine surely is the envy of other Soho establishments.
For her Second Course, Peachy Deegan had The Sea Scallops (shown above) which could not have been fresher. Served with oxtail ragout, yucca and horseradish gremolata (parsley, lemon zest and horseradish), the Scallops were among the best she has had.
The Whom You Know Dining Panel commented:
"The Mott is a small and quaint restaurant located at Mott and Broome Street in SoHo. The interior is very light and clean with white walls, subtle lighting (Edison bulbs) and an unusual ceiling. We sat at a small table and watched the other crowds in the restaurant while we awaited our food.
We were attended by a gracious host and were served by a knowledgeable and attentive waiter. The menu was quite simple though it boasted lamb, pork belly and ginger soup for appetizers and striped bass, duck breast, sirloin and scallops for main courses. I tried the coriander-crusted lamb with cucumber, lemon and mint sauce for a starter, which was delicious, very tender and flavorful. I ordered the wild striped sea bass, prepared in a subtle dashi soy sauce with wild mushrooms and black truffle glaze. The sea bass was an excellent choice, not too heavy and just the right portion.
We also tried the bone marrow which was a treat provided by the chef. Overall, I was very impressed with the service, the simple but savory menu, reasonable prices and the décor of the restaurant.
Overall, we recommend the Mott to anyone looking for a small, quiet refuge with great food in SoHo."
The final finish was amazing: Chocolate Cake (it was orgasmic) with Whipped Cream:
It was enjoyed with Mordecofe from Ethiopia: perfume and stone fruit nose, medium bodied flavours of peaches and cream! How Peachy!
