Another Highlight of the Met: Peachy Deegan Views The Young Archer at the Best Museum in Manhattan: The Metropolitan Museum of Art

We like a lot of Museums in Manhattan, but the Met is our favorite!  Though Sundays are quite crowed, Peachy Deegan visited the Met today to view the Young Archer, an early work of Michelangelo Buonarroti. (1475-1564).  The Young Archer is marble, Italian and circa 1491-92

We first told you about this a month ago:

How lucky we are that the French Republic is lending it!  Their ministry of Foreign European Affairs generously agreed to a ten year loan.  It can be found quite conveniently just by entering the left hall to the direct left of the main central staircase, in a room just to the left of the hall at the Patio from the Castle of Velez Blanco (Spanish 1506-15).

What is most impressive to us is how young he was when the work was created; however, we think that most notable people started young: just take a look at our Movers and Shakers column to see how precocious they were!  As with the Temple of Dendur, the story of the work is depicted on the wall and we encourage you to read its colorful history as well as appreciate the statue.
