Celebrate Thanksgiving with Abraham Lincoln: New-York Historical Society to hold celebratory Living History Day on the day after Thanksgiving

Although Thanksgiving began in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, there was no regular, national observance of the holiday until Lincoln established it with a proclamation in 1863. The New-York Historical Society will present a family-friendly Living History Day with Abraham Lincoln, featuring interactions with Lincoln (in the form of expert Lincoln interpreter George Buss), a concert by the Abyssinian Baptist Church Cathedral Choir and the 2nd New Jersey Brigade. Friday, November 27th, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West at 77th St.

George Buss as Abraham Lincoln
Native Illinoisan George Buss has presented masterful and riveting interpretations of Lincoln for over two decades. He has put on programs at Ford's Theater, the White House, and Gettysburg and appeared live on C-SPAN's Lincoln-Douglas Debates. Buss also holds positions with numerous Lincoln-related national organizations.

2nd New Jersey Brigade
The 2nd New Jersey Brigade is a nonprofit living history organization dedicated to the commemoration of the people and events of the American Civil War History through accurate and educational portrayals.

The Abyssinian Baptist Church Cathedral Choir Concerts at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm
James Davis Jr., Music Director and Principal Conductor, Dina Foster-Osbourne, Accompanist

The Cathedral Choir of The Abyssinian Baptist Church is one of two principal adult choirs at the Church.  James Davis Jr. has served as the Choir's music director and principal conductor since his appointment as Director of Music Ministries & Fine Arts at Abyssinian in January of 2008.  A versatile musical organization, the Choir not only performs a vast repertoire of sacred classical music, oratorios, anthems and hymns, especially highlighting works by African American composers; but also explores music of the entire African American worship experience.  Mr. Davis has expanded the Choir's repertory and scope by adding to its repertoire a consistent offering of concert arrangements of Negro spirituals and gospel, both traditional and contemporary.  The Cathedral Choir is an integral part of the divine worship services at Abyssinian and also has delivered many concert performances.
