MARVELLOUS MOTORS SELL WELL AT BONHAMS HARROGATE SALE
The saleroom at the Yorkshire Event Centre was packed with a mixture of local bidders and international enthusiasts for Bonhams annual sale of Collectors’ Motor Cars, Motorcycles, Historic Commercial Vehicles and Automobilia at Harrogate. Spirited bids saw 92.14% of items on offer sold by lot (89.38% by value).
The biggest sale of the day was a 1933 Lagonda 16/80 2-litre Four Seat Tourer which sold for £56,500 (estimate £55,000-65,000). Meanwhile a 1935 Bentley 3½ Litre Four Door Razor-edge ‘Brougham’, laid up for thirty years, doubled its pre-sale estimate of £20,000-25,000 to achieve £48,800.
Other highlights include the world’s only 1925 Beverley-Barnes 30/90hp 4,826cc Five Seat Tourer which reached £48,800 (estimate £40,000-60,000) and a 1969 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Seven Passenger Limousine which sold for £24,725 (estimate £18,000-25,000).
Jaguars included in the catalogue also sold well. A 1955 Jaguar XK140 Roadster reached £43,300, exceeding the pre-sale estimate of £33,000-38,000 and a 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster achieved £31,625 (estimate £28,000-32,000).
The motorcycles included in the sale were also snapped up by enthusiasts and collectors. In particular, the 1951 Vincent 998cc Black Shadow which was bought for a market correct £47,700 (estimate £40,000-50,000), the c1930 Indian Model 402 Four which achieved £33,350 (estimate £32,000-38,000) and the barn-discovery 1933 Matchless 593cc Model B Silver Hawk which tripled the pre-sale estimate to sell for £28,175 (estimate £5,000-8,000).
