We suggested the Phat Beets as part of the Thanksgiving meal, and one of our panelists has this to say following the holiday:
My first thought has always been UGH. I grew up in a house where beets - the canned kind - were offered up on a regular basis. And they were never enjoyed, not by me anyway. That's why, when Rick's Pick Phat Beets arrived on my doorstep a few days ago, I was anything but excited. But when a friend recommends something and goes through the trouble of sending it to you, you grin, bear it, and dig in. And that brings me to Phat Beets...in a word - delicious. The only way to explain it is to compare it to eating jarred pickles your whole life - the really green ones that are in the supermarket aisle and require no refrigeration - and then being introduced to a REAL pickle from the counter at your favorite deli. No comparison, right? Well, it's the same with Rick's Pick Phat Beets. They're really in a different class than any of the canned or even jarred varieties I was offered as a kid. Definitely check out their website for some great appetizer ideas. These beets can be served as so much more than a side dish!
